Consultant II - Solid Waste Management Consulting

We are looking for a top performer who is a strong team contributor with a positive attitude, who can make a strong technical contribution to project work, and who has the flexibility that comes with growth and change, working in a virtual office and serving a client base around the world. The candidate must be based in the continental United States.

NOTE: This is not an entry-level role. It requires work to be performed with increased independence and responsibility in a matrix management organization, with Project Manager(s) assigned and an administrative supervisor.

POSITION OVERVIEW

  • Title: Consultant II
  • Reports to: Executive Vice President or other designated manager
  • Location: Remote home office. The candidate must be based in the continental United States.

Consultant II will assist Project Managers as directed, may serve as a task manager on major components of large projects, or as a project manager of less complex projects, under the direction of a project manager and/or project director. The successful candidate will possess a positive attitude, be a self-starter, be comfortable working alone and in teams, be technically proficient in math, and have superior oral and written communication skills. Ability to investigate, research, perform analysis, and contribute to the development of solutions and recommendations under direction and guidance. Be willing to take direction and work with Senior Management, Project Management, and other Consulting Staff to develop work product deliverables, prepare proposals, and execute marketing functions.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Perform project work assignments and marketing activities, as directed by Project Manager (PM) or supervisor.
  • Inform PM as to progress of work and discuss with PM any difficulties in accomplishing the assignment and its impact on hours assigned and the projected time frame.
  • Refer client feedback to PM; and report needs, problems, or issues raised by client or other outside parties to PM.
  • Notify PM of any scheduling problems with publications.
  • Achieve direct labor utilization target and report to supervisor any problems in meeting utilization, project priority conflicts, or other related issues as soon as he/she becomes aware of them.
  • Participate in professional development activities to increase knowledge and skills.

Other Requirements:

  • Comply with GBB's policies and procedures, including submission of administrative reports, timesheets, and other company-required documents and forms on a timely basis.
  • Travel, as needed, to perform assignments.
  • Work off-site, as needed, to perform assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

4-year Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Environmental, or Planning from an accredited U.S. College, University, or equivalent international institution. Solid waste management training or related field a plus.

Experience:

Two (2) or more years of progressively responsible solid waste/environmental, science, or engineering experience, and must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills necessary to perform assignments.

Relevant Skills

  • Applicant should know how to do computer-based modeling or life cycle cost estimates.
  • Must demonstrate superior written and oral communication skills necessary to perform assignments.
  • Preferrable that applicant has demonstrated research and writing skills for one or more published papers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • This position will primarily be performed in a personal home, but also in business and commercial offices, with occasional need to perform work in industrial sites and facilities.
  • Industrial work environment (s) assignments will require:

o The ability to climb multiple flights of stairs and ladders;

o The ability to work from high platforms;

o The ability to work in hot or cold temperatures;

o The ability to work in dusty atmospheres with proper personal protective equipment; and

o The ability to wear and work in appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety shoes, safety glasses, a full-face respirator, and hearing protection.

  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally, as needed, to various locations via airplane, train, car, etc.
  • Ability to sit for long periods doing computer work.

SALARY RANGE

Commensurate with experience.
