Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon with expertise in cardiac transplantation to join a leading tertiary pediatric cardiac center in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will be responsible for the surgical management of complex congenital heart disease, pediatric cardiac transplantation, and advanced cardiac surgical procedures in infants, children, and adolescents.
The ideal candidate will work within a highly specialized multidisciplinary cardiac team to deliver world-class surgical outcomes and advanced pediatric cardiac care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex pediatric cardiac surgeries including congenital heart defect repairs, redo cardiac surgeries, and high-risk neonatal cardiac procedures.
- Lead and participate in pediatric heart transplantation programs, including donor evaluation, recipient selection, surgical transplantation, and post-operative management.
- Provide preoperative and postoperative surgical care for pediatric cardiac patients.
- Manage critically ill pediatric cardiac patients in collaboration with ICU, cardiology, anesthesia, and perfusion teams.
- Participate in multidisciplinary cardiac conferences and surgical planning meetings.
- Ensure high standards of surgical safety, infection control, and perioperative care.
- Supervise and mentor junior surgeons, fellows, and surgical trainees.
- Contribute to clinical research, audits, publications, and academic activities in pediatric cardiac surgery.
- Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with DOH Abu Dhabi regulations and hospital protocols.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and cardiac program development.
Qualifications & Requirements
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree recognized by DOH Abu Dhabi.
- Board Certification / Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery with subspecialty training in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery.
- Additional advanced training or experience in pediatric heart transplantation is mandatory.
- Valid DOH Consultant License or Eligibility Letter in Cardiac Surgery.
- Minimum 7–10 years of post-fellowship experience in pediatric cardiac surgery, including transplant programs.
- Strong expertise in neonatal and complex congenital heart surgery.
- Excellent surgical, leadership, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in ECMO and advanced mechanical circulatory support.
- Exposure to high-volume pediatric cardiac transplant centers.
- Academic and research background in pediatric cardiac surgery.
- Ability to work in a high-acuity, multidisciplinary tertiary care environment.
