Consultant Psychiatrist

The Consultant Psychiatrist is responsible for providing expert psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with mental health disorders. The role involves clinical leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, supervision of junior medical staff, and contribution to service development and quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including mental status examinations and risk assessments.
  • Diagnose and manage a wide range of psychiatric disorders such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, and personality disorders.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans including pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, and psychosocial interventions.
  • Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications in accordance with clinical guidelines.
  • Provide crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric care when required.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records.

2. Multidisciplinary Collaboration

  • Work closely with psychologists, social workers, nurses, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in case conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Coordinate care plans to ensure holistic patient management.

3. Supervision & Teaching

  • Supervise junior doctors, residents, and medical students.
  • Provide clinical guidance and mentorship.
  • Participate in academic activities, teaching sessions, and training programs (if applicable).

4. Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with local mental health legislation and ethical standards.
  • Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to policy development and implementation.

5. Administrative Responsibilities

  • Participate in departmental meetings.
  • Contribute to service planning and development.
  • Assist in resource allocation and service efficiency improvements.

6. Qualifications & Requirements

  • Medical Degree (MBBS/MD or equivalent).
  • Postgraduate qualification in Psychiatry (MD/DNB/MRCPsych or equivalent).
  • Board Certification or Specialist Registration in Psychiatry (as per local regulatory body).
  • Valid medical license to practice.
  • Minimum X years of clinical experience (typically 3–5+ years post-specialization).

  • May include on-call duties and emergency coverage.
  • Interaction with high-risk or acutely unwell patients.

  • Patient outcomes and satisfaction.

  • Contribution to team performance and service development.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹80,000.00 - ₹150,000.00 per month
