Position Summary
The Consultant Surgical Oncologist will be responsible for providing expert surgical care to patients with cancer, from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up. The role involves performing complex oncologic surgeries, leading multidisciplinary discussions, guiding junior doctors, and contributing to the overall development of surgical oncology services within the institution.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with malignant and pre-malignant conditions.
- Perform complex surgical oncology procedures across one or more specialties (e.g., breast, gastrointestinal, head and neck, thoracic, gynecologic, or urologic oncology).
- Participate in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Ensure evidence-based, patient-centered care aligned with institutional protocols and international best practices.
- Provide preoperative and postoperative care, ensuring optimal recovery and rehabilitation.
- Collaborate with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, and palliative care teams.
Teaching & Mentoring
- Supervise and train residents, fellows, and medical students in surgical oncology techniques and patient management.
- Contribute to continuing medical education (CME) programs, workshops, and surgical training initiatives.
Research & Academic Contributions
- Engage in clinical research, audits, and publication of findings in peer-reviewed journals.
- Participate in clinical trials and contribute to institutional research initiatives.
- Present at national and international oncology conferences.
Administrative & Leadership Duties
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to service development, policy-making, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation and comply with hospital and legal standards.
- Support accreditation, quality assurance, and safety programs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Medical Degree (MBBS/MD or equivalent) recognized by [relevant medical council].
- Postgraduate qualification in Surgery (MS/FRCS/DNB or equivalent).
- Super-specialty qualification in Surgical Oncology (MCh/DNB or equivalent).
- Valid registration/licensure with [relevant medical board or council].
- Minimum 5–10 years of post-qualification experience in surgical oncology (depending on institution requirements).
- Proven expertise in performing major oncologic surgeries and managing complex cancer cases.
