About the Role:

The SCA Specialist – Geodiversity plays a key role in driving content growth and enhancing the geographic diversity of Wiley journals. This role supports the development and execution of commissioning, outreach, and lead generation activities, with a focus on special issues, collections, article commissioning, and innovative approaches tailored to key markets. Working closely with the Manager – Geodiversity, SCA, and the broader team, the Specialist identifies, qualifies, and delivers high-potential content opportunities, builds Wiley’s presence and relationships in priority regions, and contributes directly to the strategic goals of the SCA team. The role also focuses on building Wiley’s presence and relationships in these markets, directly contributing to the geographic diversity of Wiley’s content.

Key Responsibilities

Content Acquisition & Commissioning

  • Identify, assess, and support the development of special issues, collections, and other content initiatives in collaboration with researchers, institutions, and editorial networks from key markets, ensuring smooth handover to relevant teams for article management and operational follow-through.
  • Maintain a healthy pipeline of ideas and ongoing special issues, collections and other content, ensuring alignment with geodiversity and content growth objectives.
  • Track and report on lead conversion, engagement progress, and performance on acquired content.
  • As necessary, manage a pipeline of special issues, collections and other content for a portfolio of journals either in an interim or permanent capacity , to drive content growth within the respective portfolios

Regional Engagement & Outreach

  • Build and nurture relationships with researchers, editors, institutions, and societies in priority regions.
  • Support outreach activities, events, and initiatives to strengthen Wiley’s presence and credibility in local research communities.
  • Identify and cultivate Guest Editors and authors for special issue proposals, as well as potential candidates for editorial roles across the portfolio.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support regional growth objectives.
  • Facilitate two-way sharing of regional insights and feedback - both from markets to inform internal content strategies and engagement planning, and from internal teams to shape external engagement activities
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and smooth execution of content initiatives as well as strategic editorial appointments.

Data & Market Insights

  • Use data and market intelligence to identify high-potential institutions, research communities, and disciplines for content acquisition and editorial appointments.
  • Support the Manager – Geodiversity, SCA, and Editor Experience in monitoring and reporting on progress against strategic goals.

Community Representation

  • Represent Wiley’s journal portfolio as well as other products (when relevant) at conferences, workshops, and events (online or in-person) to engage with the research community and promote geodiversity initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with research communities or in STM publishing organizations.
  • Excellent networking, relationship-building, persuasion, and influencing skills.
  • Detail-oriented, results-driven, and able to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Willingness to travel, especially within priority regions.
  • Higher degree (PhD/MSc) in a relevant field (e.g., Life Science, Environment Science, Earth Science, or related disciplines) preferred.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English.
  • Passion for expanding geographic representation in academic publishing and a proactive, adaptable mindset.

It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall within the range, however the ultimate salary offered for this role may be higher or lower and will be set based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, skills, and competencies. Wiley proactively displays target base pay range for United Kingdom, Canada and USA based roles.
