Position Summary
The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra seeks a dynamic Content & Communications Manager to lead the development and execution of compelling digital storytelling across platforms. Reporting to the Director of Communications, this role is responsible for shaping and implementing the MSO’s social media and digital content strategy in alignment with marketing, brand, and audience development goals.
This individual is both a strategist and a creator who is comfortable behind a camera, in video editing programs, or drafting copy that captures the emotional power of live performance. The ideal candidate brings strong creative instincts, technical fluency, and an analytical mindset to help grow audience engagement, strengthen brand reputation, and drive ticket sales.
Key Responsibilities
Content Strategy & Execution
Design and implement social media strategy in partnership with the Director of Communications and Director of Marketing.
Lead daily content creation and publishing across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.).
Manage and maintain the social media content calendar and digital advertising coordination.
Serve as primary liaison to Capacity Interactive, working collaboratively with Marketing on digital campaigns.
Develop organic and paid social campaigns aligned with ticket sales and institutional storytelling goals.
Creative Production
Capture and produce short-form video content at concerts, rehearsals, and events.
Operate DSLR/mirrorless cameras and basic audio equipment for in-house production needs.
Edit video using video editing software; create graphics using Adobe products and/or Canva or similar.
Support larger video projects in coordination with external production partners.
Work with guest artists and artistic liaisons to source, edit, and distribute approved content.
Manage freelance photographers and coordinate photo/video shoots.
Brand Voice & Copywriting
Write engaging, audience-focused social media copy and digital content.
Support broader communications efforts, including web updates, email copy, and internal publications.
Proofread marketing and communications materials across departments.
Maintain consistent brand voice across platforms.
Analytics & Reporting
Monitor and analyze social media metrics, Google Analytics, and Capacity Interactive dashboards.
Translate data insights into actionable strategy adjustments.
Track digital engagement trends and report on campaign performance.
Conduct social listening to identify brand sentiment and emerging reputation considerations.
Share insights with internal stakeholders to inform communications planning.
Engagement & Reputation
Monitor comments, direct messages, and reviews; respond in a timely and professional manner.
Maintain awareness of audience sentiment and escalate potential issues when needed.
Maintain visible presence at concerts and events to capture real-time content and support institutional storytelling.
Qualifications & Skills
Required
2–4 years of experience in communications, digital marketing, or social media management.
Demonstrated experience in short-form video production and editing.
Proficiency in graphic design programs or video editing programs, including Adobe products and/or Canva or similar.
Strong copywriting skills with an understanding of audience engagement.
Fluency across major social media platforms and trends.
Experience interpreting social media analytics and digital performance data.
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Excellent file management and digital asset organization skills.
Preferred
Experience in performing arts, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.
Basic photography and camera operation knowledge.
Familiarity with paid social advertising strategies.
Experience working with external digital marketing agencies.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: The position requires a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, English, arts administration, or a related field, and 2-4 years of digital communications experience. Event promotion experience preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and knowledge of social media platforms a must.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Basic math skills required.
REASONING ABILITY: Able to collect data and information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: This position requires demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and maintain highest level of organizational skills and attention to detail. Regular attendance is required.
