Content Creator Generalist

Position Title: Content Creator Generalist – Communications Specialist

Location: Hybrid, Remote, 20% travel; Eligible candidates may reside in TN, MI, OH, IN, FL, WV, NC, PA, TX; preferably within 1 hour of Knoxville, TN

Salary Range: $60,000 – $70,000 annually (commensurate with experience)

Based in Knoxville, Tennessee, IACMI brings together nearly 200 industry, academic, and government partners to accelerate advanced manufacturing technologies and develop the next generation of skilled workers. Established in 2015 by the U.S. Department of Energy, IACMI is part of the Manufacturing USA® network of institutes working to secure America’s global leadership in advanced manufacturing. Since 2019, IACMI has scaled up workforce programs for the U.S. Department of War (DoW), formerly Department of Defense. IACMI is supported in part by the Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) program within the Innovation Capability and Modernization (ICAM) office.

POSITION SUMMARY

IACMI is seeking a creative, adaptable Content Creator Generalist to develop and produce compelling content that supports national workforce initiatives, including ACE (America’s Cutting Edge), METAL and related programs. This role will focus on creating high-quality digital content across formats (video, photography, written content, and social media) to tell the story of advanced manufacturing and workforce development. The Content Creator Generalist will work closely with communications, marketing, and program teams to translate complex topics into engaging, accessible content that resonates with students, educators, industry, and government stakeholders. This role reports to the DoW Communications & Public Affairs Manager and plays a key role in building a consistent, high-impact content pipeline that drives awareness and engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and produce original content across multiple formats, including short-form video, photography, social media posts, blogs, and basic graphic assets
  • Capture content at events, site visits, and workforce training environments, including interviews, b-roll, and storytelling moments as needed
  • Edit and package content for digital distribution across platforms such as LinkedIn, YouTube, and websites
  • Translate technical and workforce topics into clear, engaging, audience-friendly narratives
  • Repurpose existing content (videos, reports, interviews, press releases) into new formats to maximize reach and usability
  • Collaborate with communications, marketing, and program teams to align content with campaigns, milestones, and strategic priorities
  • Support event marketing efforts by producing real-time and post-event content
  • Maintain an organized content library and assist with asset management
  • Stay current on content trends and recommend new formats or approaches to increase engagement
  • Assist in maintaining a consistent voice, tone, and visual identity across all content
  • Support communications team as needed across programs

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, media production, or related field OR 2–4 years of professional experience in content creation or digital media
  • Demonstrated experience creating content across multiple formats (video, social, writing, photography)
  • Basic video editing and photo editing skills (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, Canva, or similar tools)
  • Strong storytelling ability with attention to clarity and audience engagement
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience creating content for social media platforms (LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, etc.)
  • Experience capturing content in live or industrial settings
  • Familiarity with content planning tools and workflows
  • Experience working in multi-stakeholder or grant-funded environments
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple content projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for IACMI’s mission and interest in manufacturing, workforce development, or STEM
  • Comfortable working in industrial or technical environments (with appropriate safety protocols)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license Travel up to 20% of time with overnight stays
