The Role

At its core, this role is about being the voice of Do713—the person who defines how Houston experiences what’s happening in the city. You are the connective tissue between the local scene and our audience, translating concerts, events, food, culture, and moments into content that feels timely, trusted, and unmistakably Houston.

You’ll bring that voice to life across multiple touchpoints, with the daily email newsletter serving as a key (but not the only) way we connect with our audience. Whether it’s highlighting can’t-miss events, shaping how experiences are presented on our site, or collaborating with partners and contributors, you’ll take ownership of how Do713 shows up day to day.

You’ll be responsible for ensuring our website is the best possible representation of Houston—keeping event listings fresh, curating must-attend experiences, maintaining accurate venue and artist pages, and working with a network of contributors to strengthen and expand our content coverage.

Beyond content, you’ll cultivate relationships with local venues, promoters, and brands, securing ticket giveaways, partnerships, and exclusive experiences that add real value for our audience. You’ll also help amplify our presence across social channels, using them to extend reach, spark engagement, and reinforce our editorial voice.

You’ll engage directly with users—answering questions, responding to feedback, and ensuring a seamless experience across our platforms—while continually thinking about how to better serve and grow our community.

This is a full-time position based in Houston, ideal for someone who is deeply connected to their local scene, passionate about audience engagement, and excited to shape how a city experiences its culture.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the daily newsletter—crafting engaging, well-written newsletters that reflect the best things happening in your city.
  • Grow our newsletter audience—applying tactics to increase subscribers and ensure strong engagement.
  • Maintain a high-quality website—curating event listings, updating venue and artist pages, and ensuring our content is useful and fresh.
  • Execute sponsored content—integrating partner promotions naturally into our newsletters and website.
  • Drive audience growth and engagement—analyzing performance metrics and iterating to improve open rates, click rates, and site traffic.
  • Manage social media channels—creating content, engaging with followers, and ensuring our creator network is pushing out the appropriate amount of content to keep our channels active and engaged.
  • Manage local partnerships and community engagement—collaborate with venues, artists, and brands to secure ticket giveaways, exclusive promotions, and unique experiences for our audience. Respond to user inquiries across email, social, and other platforms to ensure a seamless and engaging experience.
  • Ensure brand consistency and editorial quality—writing with a defined voice, maintaining high standards, and ensuring a seamless experience across platforms.
  • Build and oversee a network of content creators & freelancers who specialize in areas like music, food, or niche events to ensure well-rounded content coverage.

Your ultimate mission is to ensure all of our content is engaging and relevant to a variety of local scenes by creating quality content, working with local promoters, using our technology & scrapers, and collaborating with others in the community.

What We’re Looking For

  • Someone obsessed with newsletters—you subscribe to them, read them, analyze them, and would be excited to write one every day.
  • A strong, engaging short-form writer who can craft compelling newsletters and web content.
  • Deeply connected to your local music, arts, and entertainment scene—you know the best venues, artists, and events happening each week.
  • Detail-oriented—you spot typos before anyone else, and accuracy is second nature.
  • Regularly engaged in local culture and events—you go to concerts, comedy shows, festivals, and more.
  • Self-motivated—you don’t need someone looking over your shoulder to stay productive.
  • An active consumer of local and national newsletters, music blogs, and culture sites.
  • Comfortable working with digital tools like CMS platforms, marketing software, and analytics.
  • Experience managing contributors or freelancers is a plus.

Bonus Points If You:

  • Already use Do713.
  • Have experience growing and managing newsletter lists.
  • Have a background in digital marketing, editorial writing, or audience development.
  • Have experience working in the music or entertainment industry.
  • Have experience with Google Analytics, SEO, or newsletter performance optimization.
  • Maintain a badass social media presence we can check out.
