Content Marketing and Business Development Specialist

McGinnis Lochridge is seeking an experienced Content Marketing & Business Development Specialist to join our Houston office as the dedicated marketing and business development resource for the Houston market. This is a full-time, in-office position focused on elevating the firm’s brand visibility, thought leadership, and business development capabilities — with particular emphasis on commercial litigation and the energy industry.

The ideal candidate is a skilled content strategist and producer who understands the business of law — someone who knows how to translate attorneys’ expertise into compelling content that drives visibility across digital channels and who has earned the trust of lawyers by communicating in their language and motivating them to invest time in the marketing process.

Equally important, this is not a role for someone who stays in their lane. We are a mid-sized firm, and our Houston office operates as a close-knit team. We need someone who shows up with an ownership mindset — someone who sees a need and acts on it without being asked, who is willing to pitch in on projects and priorities outside the traditional scope of marketing or business development, and who takes pride in contributing wherever the office needs them. High agency, low ego, and a genuine investment in the success of the office are non-negotiable traits for this role.

This person will bring both strategic thinking and executional excellence to the role, serve as a skilled generalist capable of supporting the full spectrum of legal marketing and business development activities, manage relationships with outside vendors, and function as a trusted partner to attorneys and firm leadership alike.

Regional travel among the firm's Houston, Austin, and Dallas offices is required, approximately one week per month.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development Support

  • Provide general practice group support to the General Litigation and Oil & Gas practice groups by attending meetings, following up on initiatives and communicating needs to the larger marketing team.
  • Manage Houston-specific client events, attorney networking events, and assist with sponsorship follow up in coordination with the firm's broader event and sponsorship program.
  • Assist attorneys with identifying and executing targeted business development strategies, including research on prospective clients, industries, and opportunities specific to the Houston and Texas energy markets.
  • Contribute to the firm's rankings and directory submissions (Chambers USA, Legal 500, Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, Benchmark Litigation, etc.), including drafting narratives and coordinating submissions.
  • Assist in identifying speaking and sponsorship opportunities that align with the firm's business development priorities.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and practice group leaders to develop targeted business development content, including pitch decks, capability statements, RFP responses, and client presentations.
  • Assist in coordination of business development events with clients and prospective clients.

Digital Content Marketing & Strategy

  • Own and execute the firm's digital content strategy across the website, blog, social media (with emphasis on LinkedIn), and content syndication platforms such as JD Supra.
  • Manage a firm-wide editorial content calendar that aligns thought leadership output with practice group priorities, business development goals, and key industry moments.
  • Partner with attorneys and practice group leaders to develop compelling content — including client alerts, articles, blog posts, white papers and webinars.
  • Serve as the primary overseer of the firm's flagship print publication, Producer's Edge, now in its eighth year. Coordinate content development with attorneys, manage production timelines, oversee layout and design with the marketing coordinator, and handle distribution to the firm's client and referral base.
  • Manage the firm's webinar program, including live webinars and on-demand CLE content developed for clients and industry participants. Coordinate attorney speakers, manage platforms and logistics, and repurpose webinar content across other channels.
  • Lead SEO strategy for the firm's website in coordination with any external digital vendors, including keyword research, content optimization, and performance tracking.
  • Stay current with emerging AI-driven search behavior and develop strategies to ensure the firm's content performs well in AI-generated search results and AI-powered discovery tools.
  • Manage email marketing campaigns using platforms such as TRE or similar tools, including segmenting audiences and building practice group and invite lists, drafting content, analyzing performance, and continuously improving engagement metrics.
  • Track, analyze, and report on digital content performance (web analytics, social metrics, email KPIs) and translate data into actionable recommendations for firm leadership.

Marketing Support

  • Serve as a resource within the marketing team, providing mentorship and guidance to the marketing coordinator on content marketing and general communications.
  • Maintain and update website content, attorney bios, and practice group pages in alignment with brand standards in conjunction with the marketing coordinator.
  • Organize internal communications including a firm weekly Flash Report.
  • Assist with the management and optimization of the marketing technology platform used by the department, particularly related to email campaigns and contact list management.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field required; advanced degree a plus.
  • 4–6 years of marketing, business development, and communications experience; prior experience in a legal marketing role is preferred. Experience working with smaller mid-sized firms (40–250 attorneys) strongly preferred.
