Content Writer

Position Summary:

MDC’s Content Writer will focus on written communications for social media, website, email campaigns, press releases, and other content, focusing specifically on content related to substance misuse prevention and recovery support. The copywriter works closely with the director of communications to shape MDC’s voice and develop communications for the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop clear, engaging copy for social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook LinkedIn, etc.), web pages, emails, blogs, and occasional campaigns.
• Assist with brainstorming ideas and creating a plan for social media, emails, press releases, events, donor communications, and other relevant content.
• Assist with writing content and captions for social media as well responding to comments on and engaging with other accounts on social media.
• Work with press and local news media by writing press releases, respond promptly to requests for interviews, identify and coordinate with internal subject matter experts, and write talking points for interviews.
• Help develop consistent voice for MDC content as well as language for different services and programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the communication team needs.

Qualifications

• Communicate masterfully in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with an eye for detail.
• Creative thinker: excited to contribute ideas—not just execute them. Ability to brainstorm, develop creative concepts, and problem solve.
• Independently manage priorities and multiple projects
• Comfortable receiving and applying feedback
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable using technology
• Portfolio or writing samples demonstrating creative thinking skills
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Creative Writing, Marketing, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience managing and editing websites using WordPress
• Knowledge of basic graphic design principles
• Proficiency in Design software like Canva and Adobe
• Previous professional copywriting experience
