Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Content Writer/Strategist to support a large-scale government website replatforming and redesign initiative. This high-impact project focuses on modernizing a primary public-facing digital platform to deliver a more accessible, user-centered experience for residents, visitors, and internal users.
In this role, you will lead content auditing, restructuring, rewriting, and migration from a legacy website into a new content management system (CMS). You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders, designers, and developers to ensure content is accurate, accessible, inclusive, and launch-ready.
Key Responsibilities
- Audit, research, write, and edit web content for migration from a legacy platform to a new CMS
- Rewrite complex government programs and services into clear, user-friendly language
- Ensure content aligns with established voice, tone, digital standards, and equity goals
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to validate content accuracy and resolve gaps or inconsistencies
- Optimize content for readability, accessibility, and engagement across digital platforms
- Support quality assurance and content readiness for website launch
Required & Desired QualificationsDesired Experience
- Experience writing content for government, public sector, or civic-focused websites
- Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and digital publishing tools
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Basic knowledge of SEO and web analytics
Highly Preferred
- Prior experience working on large government or public-sector websites
- Strong understanding of plain language principles and accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG)
- Experience collaborating with designers, developers, and communications teams
- Ability to analyze content performance and make data-informed improvements
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and serving diverse audiences
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
