Content Writer, Data & Markets

About the Role

Alphanume is hiring a Content Writer for our Data & Markets team. You'll be the voice behind Alphanume Research, our flagship publication, and you'll help craft the write-ups that accompany our alternative datasets. This is a role for someone who can translate complex data into sharp, readable content that resonates with traders, analysts, and finance professionals.

You won't just be writing. You'll be sourcing ideas, identifying angles in our datasets that deserve a spotlight, and shaping how the market understands what we publish.

What You'll Do

  • Write and edit articles, research notes, and market commentary for Alphanume Research.
  • Produce clear, compelling write-ups that accompany new dataset releases, explaining what the data shows, why it matters, and how readers can use it.
  • Collaborate with our data science and research teams to surface stories hidden in the numbers.
  • Source and pitch original content ideas based on emerging trends in alternative data and markets.
  • Maintain a consistent editorial voice across the publication and our dataset documentation.
  • Turn around timely commentary when markets move or our data tells a story worth telling now.

What We're Looking For

  • A strong writer who can produce clean, engaging prose under deadline and adapt tone for different audiences, from sophisticated quant traders to retail-curious readers.
  • Working knowledge of data science concepts, including how datasets are constructed, what makes them useful or noisy, common statistical methods, and how to read and interpret results without misrepresenting them.
  • A foundational understanding of financial markets, including equities, options, and futures. You should know the difference between a call and a put, understand what implied volatility is, and be able to discuss basic market structure without needing it explained.
  • Comfort working independently, pitching your own ideas, and managing multiple pieces at different stages.

Nice to Have

  • Experience writing for a finance, markets, or research-focused publication.
  • Familiarity with alternative data sources such as web traffic, transaction data, or sentiment data.
  • Comfort with SQL, Python, or basic data visualization tools, even at a hobbyist level.
  • A portfolio or clips we can read.

How to Stand Out

The best applications we receive come from people who've actually spent time with Alphanume Research before hitting submit. We strongly prioritize candidates who answer the screening questions thoughtfully and show genuine familiarity with our publication. If you can reference specific pieces, push back on something we've written, or pitch an angle we missed, you'll move to the top of the pile.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year

Application Question(s):

  • Choose any Alphanume Research piece and pitch a companion piece that builds on it. What's your headline, what data would you use, and what's the takeaway?
  • Pick any Alphanume Research piece and identify one assumption or methodology choice the author made. Do you agree with it? What would you have done differently?
  • After fully reading "We Figured Out How Prediction Market Quants Actually Trade.", what's a counterargument or limitation the piece didn't address? How would you write a follow-up that engages with it?
