Contingent Persian-Language Archivist

Job Summary: The Hoover Institution Library & Archives is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Contingent Persian-Language Archivist. The successful candidate will be responsible for appraising, organizing, preserving, arranging, and describing unique and rare materials within our international collection of personal papers, organizational records, and rare published materials from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The aim is to facilitate discovery and access to the Hoover Institution’s multi-lingual cultural heritage materials, with a particular emphasis on Farsi/Persian language resources. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with diverse archival resources while applying your skills in archives management, metadata creation, and digital content organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and appraise Farsi/Persian language materials, ensuring appropriate categorization and preservation efforts.
  • Organize and arrange collections of personal papers, organizational records, and rare published materials to promote user accessibility.
  • Develop detailed descriptions of collections to enhance discoverability through online catalogs and archival databases.
  • Collaborate with other archivists and staff members to establish workflows for digitization projects, ensuring that Farsi/Persian materials are prioritized in alignment with institutional goals.
  • Conduct research on Persian-language materials to ensure accurate representation and contextualization within the archival framework.
  • Assist in the creation of finding aids and other descriptive tools to promote the accessibility of Farsi/Persian materials.
  • Engage in outreach efforts to promote the collection and facilitate access for researchers and the general public.
  • Stay informed about best practices in archival processing, digital preservation, and Farsi/Persian language resources.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, Archival Studies, or a related field, with a focus on archival management preferred.
  • Proficiency in Farsi/Persian, including reading, writing, and comprehension skills, with a strong understanding of the culture and historical context of the materials.
  • Familiarity with archival standards, practices, and technologies, including digitization processes and metadata creation.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Previous experience in an archives, library, or related setting is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team committed to cultural preservation. The expected pay range for this position is $30 to $35 per hour. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
