Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Contract Adoption Specialist (PRN) to work directly with clients in community settings in the San Antonio, Texas area. This role is ideal for a compassionate and experienced social work professional with a background in child welfare or related fields. The Adoption Specialist will guide expectant parents and adoptive families through the adoption process, ensuring that each placement is handled with care, diligence, and ethical integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive Home Study assessments of prospective adoptive families to evaluate readiness and suitability for adoption.
  • Provide counseling, education, and support to expectant parents exploring adoption, including completion of assessments and document collection.
  • Collaborate closely with the National Office to coordinate services and ensure compliance with state regulations and agency standards.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation of all interactions, assessments, and progress notes in accordance with licensing requirements and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Child Welfare, or a closely related field is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience conducting home studies and working in child welfare or adoption services is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Child Protective Services procedures and the legal aspects of adoption is highly desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Selfmotivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a communitybased setting.

Position Overview: Contract Adoption Specialist

This is a 1099 contract position designed for professionals who can independently manage adoption-related responsibilities on an as-needed basis. The role primarily involves completing home studies and post-placement reports for adoptive families, as well as supporting expectant/birth parents throughout their adoption journey.

Adoptive Family Work Includes:

  • Accepting cases offered based on your location after a family begins the application process.
  • Conducting an inperson visit with all household members— this must occur in the home.
  • Completing a structured assessment tool to evaluate the adoptive family’s readiness and suitability.
  • Providing support and education on the adoption process.
  • Collaborating with our National Office, which gathers necessary clearances, while you collect all other supporting documents from the family.
  • Writing a detailed home study report using our standardized template in Microsoft Word, and inputting required information into our secure database (strong computer skills required).

Birth Parent Work May Include:

  • Meeting with expectant/birth parents to provide facetoface support and education.
  • Delivering informational packets or assisting with transportation to medical appointments.
  • Being present at the hospital for labor and delivery, as a support person and at discharge, when needed.

This work is paid hourly and rates vary based on the type of service provided:

  • Counseling, Case Management, or Relinquishment Support: $30$60/hour.

Additional Details:

  • All work is contractbased and varies depending on case needs.
  • This is not a fulltime position. Flexibility and availability on short notice (including evenings/weekends) is essential.
  • Initial training is provided remotely via video and phone, and payment is offered for time and travel related to training.
  • Compensation for adoptive family work is made upon full completion of assigned tasks, at a standard percase rate.

We ask that all contractors be comfortable working with both adoptive families and expectant parents, and confident in their ability to work independently while supporting sensitive and life-changing situations.
