Contract Attorney Needed to Assist With Hearings in Municipal and Justice Courts (North Texas)

Job Overview
We are seeking dynamic and detail-oriented Contract Attorneys to assist our office with pretrial hearings related to class c misdemeanors that are filed in municipal and justice courts across North Texas. Cases can range from traffic related offenses to assault, thefts, public intoxication and disorderly conduct citations.

Duties

• Attending court hearings in municipal courts across North Texas.
• Attending court hearings in justice of the peace courts across North Texas.
• Working with the firm's legal assistants and attorneys to provide competent hearing coverage for criminal proceedings involving class c misdemeanors.
• Understanding of the pretrial hearing process as it relates to justice and municipal hearings for criminal cases.
• Assist in the preparation of criminal hearing dockets including preparing proof for hearings, outlining and defining a client's goals and expectations as it relates to those hearings.
• Maintain organized records of all contract activities and hearing information for audit purposes.
• Support the legal administrative team by managing document workflows.
• Discussing current status of cases to clients as it relates to their specific matter.

Experience

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the state bar in good standing is required.
• Demonstrated expertise in legal research tools including LexisNexis and Westlaw.
• Strong writing skills with an ability to draft clear notes for the firm's staff and clients to understand.
• Ability to conduct negotiations with municipal and justice of the peace prosecutors to obtain the best possible outcome for our clients.
• Prior work in a law office setting or legal department is preferred, but not required.
• Knowledge of legal administrative processes and record-keeping best practices.
