Contract Per Case Criminal Attorney

Job Title: Of Counsel – Criminal Defense Attorney (Contract Position)
Location: Annapolis, Maryland (Hybrid – Remote Court Coverage & In-Office as Needed)**

The Law Office of Nathalie Karpati, a growing personal-injury and criminal-defense firm, is seeking an experienced Of Counsel Criminal Defense Attorney to join our team on a contract basis. While we do not yet have the caseload to support a full-time, in-house criminal attorney, our criminal practice is expanding, and we anticipate full-time growth within the next year if not sooner. We currently maintain approximately 5–10 active criminal-defense matters per month.

This role is ideal for a knowledgeable and dependable attorney who can independently manage criminal matters and provide high-quality client representation. Compensation will be structured on a case-by-case basis in accordance with applicable professional-responsibility rules, with revenue-sharing opportunities available for matters handled.

Responsibilities

• Handle criminal matters including misdemeanors, DUI/DWI, and traffic violations.
• Handle a few personal injury litigation cases.
• Attend court appearances (in person and virtually as required)
• Conduct client consultations and provide strategic legal guidance
• Review discovery, evaluate case strengths, and negotiate with prosecutors
• Draft motions, filings, and plea agreements as needed
• Maintain responsive, professional communication with clients and firm staff

Qualifications

• Active Maryland Bar license in good standing
• Strong courtroom advocacy and negotiation skills
• Ability to manage cases independently while collaborating with the firm
• Excellent time-management and communication skills

Compensation

• Contract-based compensation commensurate with experience and case assignments
• Per-appearance and/or case-based compensation structures available
