Contracted Driver

Overview

The Contracted Driver (Part-Time) is responsible for safely operating the organization's mobile unit and other agency vehicles to support outreach, community events, and client services. The driver ensures that vehicles are clean, properly maintained, and operated in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations. This position supports the organization's mission by providing reliable transportation and maintaining the readiness and appearance of the mobile unit and agency vehicles. Hourly rates start at $20.00.

Duties

  • Safely operate the organization's mobile unit and other agency vehicles.

Transport staff, equipment, supplies, and materials to outreach events and designated locations.

Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs promptly.

Ensure the mobile unit and agency vehicles are clean, sanitized, fueled, and ready for daily operation.

Wash, clean, and maintain the interior and exterior of all assigned vehicles.

Maintain accurate vehicle mileage, inspection, fuel, and maintenance logs.

Follow all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and traffic laws.

Ensure all required licenses, registrations, and insurance documents remain current while operating agency vehicles.

Assist with loading and unloading supplies, equipment, and outreach materials.

Report accidents, mechanical issues, or safety concerns immediately to the Executive Director

Maintain communication with supervisors regarding schedules, routes, and vehicle status.

Represent the organization professionally while interacting with clients, vendors, and community partners.

Maintain confidentiality regarding client information encountered during transportation activities.

Skills

  • Assist with setting up and breakdown of outreach events as needed.

Assist Client Services with deliveries to clients.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

III. Occasional duties or projects which may be performed at irregular intervals:

· Assist with community outreach events and health fairs.

· Assist with fundraising and community awareness activities.

· Provide transportation support for special events or agency initiatives.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

IV. Accountability:

The Contracted Driver is expected to:

Work independently with minimal supervision.

Maintain accurate vehicle records and documentation.

Operate vehicles safely and responsibly.

Maintain cleanliness and appearance of all assigned vehicles.

Represent the organization professionally within the community.

Follow all agency policies and safety procedures.

VII. Educational and/or experience requirements:

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experienced operating commercial or large vehicles preferred.

Experience driving a mobile unit or similar vehicle is preferred.

Previous experience transporting passengers or equipment is desirable...

VIII. Certification or licensing requirements:

Valid Driver’s License.

Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.

Clean driving record for at least 5 years

Ability to meet all applicable insurance requirements.

Current medical certification (if required by law).

X. Mental factors:

The position requires the ability to:

· COMPARING - Judging the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.

XI. Physical factors

· Exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires sitting to a significant degree and walking or standing periodically.

· Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand.

· Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.

· Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.

· Perceiving the nature of sounds sufficient to receive detailed information through oral communication.

· Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more.

· Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are.

· Adjustment of the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.

· Observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.

· Sit for extended periods while driving.

· Frequently exiting and entering the vehicle.

· Communicate effectively with staff, passengers and service providers.
