Job Overview
Position Summary:
The Controls Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and improving control systems across production and operational environments, with a strong focus on cybersecurity segmentation, Windows 11 migration, and industrial network hardening. This role bridges the gap between traditional automation engineering and modern OT cybersecurity practices, ensuring that control systems remain secure, reliable, and compliant with corporate and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Control Systems & Automation
- Support, maintain, and optimize PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and other industrial control systems.
- Develop, implement, and document control logic and network architectures.
- Collaborate with operations and IT teams to ensure uptime and reliability of production systems.
Cybersecurity & Network Segmentation
- Design and implement network segmentation and zoning strategies aligned with ISA/IEC 62443 and NIST frameworks.
- Coordinate with IT/OT security teams to implement firewalls, VLANs, and access controls between control networks and enterprise systems.
- Perform system audits, vulnerability assessments, and patch management for control assets.
- Lead incident response planning and disaster recovery for control networks.
Windows 11 Deployment & Systems Integration
- Plan and execute Windows 11 OS migration across engineering workstations, HMIs, and operator interfaces.
- Validate and test system compatibility for automation software (PLC programming tools, SCADA clients, etc.).
- Develop imaging, deployment, and backup procedures for standardized Windows 11 control environments.
- Maintain security baselines, group policies, and user access control within Windows-based systems.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of control networks, system configurations, and cybersecurity controls.
- Support compliance initiatives including NERC CIP, ISO 27001, or internal cybersecurity standards.
- Contribute to change control, version management, and patch documentation processes.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 3–7 years of experience in controls or automation engineering.
- Proficiency with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar) and HMI/SCADA systems.
- Strong understanding of industrial network architecture and cybersecurity best practices.
- Hands-on experience with Windows OS administration and migration (preferably Windows 10 → 11).
- Familiarity with VLANs, firewalls, and industrial Ethernet protocols.
Preferred:
- Experience implementing ISA/IEC 62443 network segmentation or similar frameworks.
- Knowledge of Active Directory, GPOs, and endpoint hardening.
- Certifications such as CISSP, GICSP, CCNA, or equivalent.
- Experience in manufacturing, utilities, or critical infrastructure environments.
Soft Skills:
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration with IT, Operations, and Engineering.
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and documentation discipline.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision in a high-security environment
