The Almond Board of California is on the hunt for an experienced accounting leader who’s ready to roll up their sleeves and make an impact! In this senior management role, you’ll oversee accounting operations —ensuring we meet internal controls and industry standards while turning numbers into insights that guide our success. You’ll mentor and inspire a small but mighty finance team, managing day-to-day responsibilities, deadlines, and accurate reporting with confidence. This is a full-time exempt position based at our headquarters in Modesto, CA with a hybrid work schedule.


What you'll be doing:

  • Manage the full range of accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, grants, and cash flow.
  • Ensure compliance with USDA, GAAP, GASB, FMO, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate financial statements, monthly reconciliations, reports, budgets, and forecasts; provide ad-hoc analysis to support staff, leadership, Board of Directors, and committees.

  • Lead internal and external audit processes, maintain strong internal controls, and implement improvements in accounting policies and procedures.

  • Manage cash flow, liquidity, and strategic investments.

  • Direct and develop the finance team by setting goals, monitoring performance, and providing coaching, training, and professional development.

  • Drive process improvements, system enhancements, and strategic financial projects to increase efficiency, visibility, and organizational performance.

  • Collaborate closely with the Senior Finance Director, providing support and backup as needed in strategic planning, department oversight, and compliance.

  • Audit procedures
  • NetSuite ERP
  • Leadership practices, conflict resolution, and mentoring principles
  • CPA highly desired

Skill in:

  • Strong communication, multitasking, supervisory, customer service, and organizational skills
  • Exceptional accuracy and confidentiality

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS in accounting, finance, or business with 10 years of experience at an accountant level or higher, including 5 years of supervisory experience. Two years of experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
