As a small to mid-sized commercial general contractor, we specialize in delivering high-quality projects within an hour’s radius of Johnson City. We’re looking for a Controller to join our leadership team at our home office in Johnson City. This role is ideal for someone who values teamwork, stability, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact on a well-respected, community-focused construction company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all accounting and financial operations, including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, and monthly close.
- Oversee job cost accounting and WIP reporting; ensure accuracy and transparency in project financials.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, forecasts, and management reports for executive leadership.
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls and policies to ensure compliance with GAAP and company standards.
- Collaborate with project managers to monitor job performance, budgets, and profitability.
- Manage relationships with auditors, banks, bonding and insurance partners.
- Evaluate and enhance accounting systems and software for efficiency and accuracy (experience with Sage 300 CRE is a plus).
- Provide strategic financial insight to support planning, growth, and operational decisions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
- Construction industry experience required, including strong knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
- Proficiency with construction accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
