Position Summary

Reporting to the President, the Controller is responsible for the overall financial management, internal controls, and accounting operations of this two-location company. This role leads Payroll, Accounts Payable (AP), and Accounts Receivable (AR) functions and is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining financial policies, procedures, and reporting systems.

The Controller acts as a strategic partner to the President, ensuring alignment with corporate financial standards in collaboration with the Director of Finance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Leadership & Oversight

  • Lead Payroll, AP, and AR functions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
  • Establish team goals, performance metrics, and service standards.
  • Coach and develop accounting staff, supporting performance and growth.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

2. Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Deliver financial reports, forecasts, and variance analyses to the President and Director of Finance.
  • Maintain dashboards and KPIs aligned with dealership operations.

3. Policies, Procedures & Internal Controls

  • Develop, implement, and enforce financial policies and procedures.
  • Maintain internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure compliance, and prevent fraud.
  • Coordinate audits and consult with external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Ensure compliance with tax laws, payroll regulations, and industry requirements.

4. Cash Flow & Working Capital Management

  • Oversee AR collections, credit management, and AP payment cycles.
  • Ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital analysis.
  • Partner with operations on inventory controls and floorplan financing.

5. Strategic Support

  • Support budgeting and annual business planning processes.
  • Provide financial insights to support pricing, promotions, and operational decisions.
  • Evaluate financial systems and recommend technology improvements.

6. Department Support & Direction

· Ensure major units are paid as sold and flooring statements are reconciled.

· Reconcile holdbacks, rebates, and other promotional discounts from OEMs.

· Oversee inventory and related reconciliations.

· Coordinate with the Finance Department to ensure financing contracts are funded and reconciled.

· Ensure daily cashouts are recorded and accurate.

· Ensure subsidiary ledgers balance to the General Ledger.

· Prepare and review journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, and amortization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CPA candidate preferred).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, preferably in retail, dealership, or powersports environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading accounting teams.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, AP/AR processes, and internal controls.
  • Experience with dealership management systems (DMS) and accounting software is an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial reporting and Excel.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
