Position Summary:
The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial operations of the mechanical contracting business. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, effective cash management, and compliance with construction accounting standards. The Controller partners with executive leadership and project management to provide financial insight that supports profitability, operational efficiency, and strategic growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting
- Maintain day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and job cost accounting
- Provide comprehensive financial updates to senior management by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and revenue recognition.
- Develop and maintain financial forecasts, budgets, and cash flow projections
- Prepare and submit monthly union contributions
- Reconcile cash accounts monthly
- Money management – Transfer of funds
Construction Accounting & Job Costing
- Maintain and monitor job cost tracking, cost controls, and budget performance across all active projects
- Collaborate with project managers to review job progress, change orders, and cost variances when needed.
- Generate in collaboration with project managers on a monthly basis AIA progress billings, retainage billings, and lien waivers
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax professionals, and financial institutions for audits
- Manage insurance reporting, bonding requirements, and financial documentation
- Ensure compliance with project contract terms and business operations.
Cash & Risk Management
- Monitor cash flow and working capital to support operations
- Assist in managing banking relationships and credit facilities
- Oversee and assist in collections and vendor payment strategies
- Evaluate financial risks and implement mitigation strategies
Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff
- Partner with operations and executive leadership to support decision-making
- Provide financial insights to improve operational efficiency and profitability
- Support strategic planning and business growth initiatives
Pay: $120,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
