Controller

Position Overview

This is a full-time Controller position for a mid-sized construction firm located in Columbus, Ohio. The Controller will oversee financial management activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and preparing financial statements. Responsibilities include maintaining internal controls, ensuring compliance with company policies, managing audits, and overseeing payroll and accounts payable/receivable processes. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and strategic financial guidance tailored to the unique demands of heavy highway construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, job costing, payroll, AP/AR, and fixed assets
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
• Manage audits, tax filings, and relationships with external partners
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
• 8+ years of accounting experience, with heavy civil/highway construction strongly preferred
• Deep knowledge of job costing and percentage-of-completion accounting
• Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Foundation Software, HCSS)
• Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, project-driven environment

Pay: $79,800.00 - $80,100.00 per year
