Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all financial operations across our construction, development, and property management portfolio. The company currently manages 35+ rental properties and 8 active construction projects, including multiple projects financed with construction loans as well as third-party builds.

This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining accurate financial reporting, implementing job costing systems, managing cash flow, and ensuring disciplined financial oversight across all business lines. The ideal candidate has strong experience in construction accounting and is comfortable operating in a fast-paced, growing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Oversight

  • Prepare and deliver monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) in a timely and accurate manner
  • Maintain general ledger integrity and oversee all accounting functions
  • Develop and enforce internal controls and financial processes

Construction Accounting & Job Costing

  • Implement and manage job costing systems across all active projects
  • Track budgets vs. actuals and provide variance analysis
  • Monitor project profitability and report on financial performance by job
  • Oversee WIP (Work-in-Progress) reporting and cost tracking

Construction Loan & Draw Management

  • Manage construction loan draws, including preparation and submission of draw packages
  • Coordinate with lenders, inspectors, and project teams to ensure timely funding
  • Track loan balances, interest, and disbursements across multiple projects

Cash Flow & Financial Planning

  • Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts across construction and rental operations
  • Monitor payables, receivables, and liquidity to ensure proper cash management
  • Support leadership in financial planning and decision-making

Property & Rental Portfolio Oversight

  • Track rent collections, operating expenses, and property-level performance
  • Ensure accurate reporting across all rental assets
  • Assist with budgeting and financial analysis for stabilized properties

Team & Process Management

  • Oversee bookkeeping and day-to-day accounting functions (AP/AR, reconciliations)
  • Improve and streamline accounting workflows and reporting systems
  • Work closely with operations, construction, and leadership teams to ensure alignment

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with a strong focus on construction or real estate
  • Proven experience with job costing, project accounting, and financial reporting
  • Experience managing construction loan draws and lender reporting
  • Strong understanding of cash flow management in a project-based environment
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or advanced accounting credentials
  • Experience with both construction and rental property accounting
  • Experience setting up or improving accounting systems and processes

This is a high-impact role within a growing construction and development company. The Controller will play a key role in building financial systems, improving visibility across projects, and supporting the company’s continued growth.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
