Job Summary

The Corporate Controller is responsible for overseeing the accounting function. Primary responsibilities include preparing financial statements, supervising the monthly close process, managing billing and collections, accounts payable, and payroll functions. The Corporate Controller will lead a team that develops and implements policies and procedures to identify, resolve, and document accounting issues. The role also includes creating procedures to ensure the closing and financial reporting processes are accurate and efficient.

This position requires strong financial leadership experience, preferably within government contracting environments, with knowledge of compliance requirements related to federal contracting, DCAA, and DoD regulations.

Job Duties

  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements for all operating entities, including a monthly analysis package of KPIs and other quantitative and qualitative data to inform the leadership team and suggest operational improvements.
  • Ensure all financial transactions are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Develop and improve accounting department processes to enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and improve timeliness.
  • Lead the accounting department, under the direction of the CFO, in providing information to external CPAs for the annual audit process.
  • Develop and maintain effective internal controls to ensure reliable financial reporting.
  • Support compliance with applicable federal contracting regulations, including DCAA audit requirements and DoD financial compliance standards, where applicable.

Supervise:

  • Billing and collection processes for all sales and rental income.
  • Payroll function, including sales commissions for the company's sales force and dealer network.
  • Accounts payable, including cost allocation for multiple operations.
  • Maintenance of accurate fixed asset records and determination of book and tax depreciation using various methods.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources and custodians to maintain accurate retirement plan records and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ensure the timely filing of sales/use tax returns, property tax renditions, and other tax filings not performed by external CPAs.

Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting in a manufacturing and/or government contracting environment.
  • Strong hands-on accounting experience with a thorough understanding of general ledger activity, reconciliations, financial statement preparation, month-end close processes, and operational accounting functions.
  • Previous experience working directly in accounting roles with progressively increasing responsibility required.
  • Strong understanding of government contract accounting principles, including FAR, CAS, indirect rate structures, and DCAA compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing or supporting incurred cost submissions (ICE), provisional billing rates, forward pricing, and DCAA audits preferred.
  • Experience with project-based accounting, job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and contract profitability analysis.
  • Familiarity with Service Contract Act (SCA), union payroll environments, and labor distribution reporting preferred.
  • Experience supporting DoD contracts and compliance requirements preferred.
  • Experience with multi-entity accounting, intercompany transactions, and complex cost allocations preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify financial risks, process inefficiencies, and compliance concerns.

Knowledge / Experience / Education

  • Government contracting experience required.
  • Experience with DCAA-compliant accounting systems and federal contract audits strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting DoD contracts, federal agencies, or defense-related operations preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting and finance experience required, including direct experience managing accounting operations and financial reporting functions.
  • Previous experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or equivalent leadership role preferred.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems commonly used in government contracting environments preferred.
  • Experience with indirect rate calculations, labor distribution, contract billing, and revenue recognition for government contracts preferred.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business with an emphasis in Accounting required.
  • CPA preferred but not required.
  • “Big Four” or national accounting firm audit experience is a plus.
  • Prior experience with mergers and acquisitions (M&A) is a plus.
