All Roads (formerly Boulder Shelter for the Homeless) has been a fixture in Boulder County since 1982, providing a bed, meals, services, and dignity to those experiencing homelessness in our community. Our mission is to create avenues to stable housing for our community’s homeless adults, from a foundation of safe shelter and supportive services. All Roads has a strong culture of collaboration, communication, creativity, compassion, and support, which yields an inclusive and engaging dynamic within the organization.

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented leader to serve as our Controller. This role is responsible for the integrity of the organization’s financial operations and serves as the foundation of a strong, compliant, and well-controlled finance function.

The Controller leads all accounting activities, ensures audit readiness, and maintains a robust system of internal controls across a complex, multi-entity nonprofit environment. This role partners closely with All Roads leadership by delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial information that supports organizational decision-making, risk management, and long-term sustainability.

Primary Responsibilities:


Grants, Budgeting, and Financial Analysis

  • Oversee accounting for grants, programs, and multiple legal entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Ensure proper tracking, reconciliation, and reporting of restricted funds
  • Provide financial oversight of grant compliance, reimbursement, and reporting processes
  • Support organizational budgeting and forecasting with accurate and reliable financial data
  • Oversee budget-to-actual analysis and provide insight into financial performance trends


Accounting Operations and Financial Reporting

  • Lead and oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll accounting
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and disciplined month-end, including grant reimbursement requests and year-end close processes
  • Review and approve financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Maintain the integrity and structure of the general ledger and chart of accounts
  • Deliver reliable monthly financial reporting and variance analysis


Audit, Compliance, and Internal Controls

  • Own the annual financial statement audit and serve as primary liaison to external auditors
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, Uniform Guidance, and all grant and donor requirements
  • Design, implement, and continuously strengthen internal controls and financial policies
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and processes across all functional areas
  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate financial and operational risks


Team Leadership and Operational Effectiveness

  • Lead, supervise, and develop a four-person accounting team
  • Establish clear roles, accountability, and high standards for accuracy and timeliness
  • Identify and drive process improvements to strengthen efficiency, scalability, and control environment

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Supervisory experience
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills


Preferred

  • Nonprofit and grant accounting experience
  • Experience with federal funding and Uniform Guidance
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and leadership abilities
  • Demonstrated experience leading audits and managing accounting operations
  • CPA or CPA candidate


Physical Demands:
This position is in an office setting and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. It is primarily sedentary work requiring the ability to lift up to twenty pounds.


Office location is in Gunbarrel (near Boulder, CO)


Compensation:
$95,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, life, disability insurance, retirement plan, PTO and Eco Pass.
