JOB TITLE: Controller
REPORTS TO: Director of Finance
FLSA STATUS: Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Controller at Mariposa Community Health Center (MCHC) will be responsible for the management of all accounting practices; the maintenance of fiscal records; the preparation and interpretation of financial reports for management, the Board of Directors and external groups. The Controller will assume overall responsibility for internal controls, forecast, financial reporting, and budgetary controls. This position is eligible for remote work within Arizona.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including the maintenance of the general ledger and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all financial data.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, balance sheets, and related reports; coordinate month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Reconcile payroll and cash disbursement accounts and oversee the review and evaluation of cost center structures, subsidiary journals, and account reconciliations for completeness and accuracy. Ensure timely processing and accuracy of bi-weekly payroll.

· Oversee grant and fund management and perform analysis on existing grants and funds for review and programmatic documentation.

  • Conduct and document audits of current accounting practices and procedures, ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Supervise, train, and manage work assignments for the accounting and payroll staff; manage schedules and attendance, provide professional development opportunities, and resolve conflicts as they arise. Create documentation on critical work processes to ensure team has a source of truth and ensure all staff both understand and can perform these essential processes.
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

The Controller will provide supervision to the Accounting team and the Payroll staff.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g., keyboard, mouse, telephone)
  • Must possess adequate vision and hearing to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and in writing

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Fluency in English and Spanish, with the ability to read, write, and speak both languages

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field

· Master’s degree in accounting or related field preferred

EXPERIENCE:

· Five (5) years or more of experience in general accounting, including full charge bookkeeping through month‐end closing and financial statement preparation.

· Three (3) years or more of experience in healthcare accounting and payroll management.

· Three (3) years or more experience in staff supervision[AT1] .

· Three (3) years or more of grant and fund management.

· Experience with Sage Intacct, ADP, and AthenaOne, or comparable software preferred.

· Excellence in customer service.

· Experience the creation and implementation of strategic plans and annual budget.

· Strong attention to detail with the ability to understand and manage financial details.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

· Competency in working with people of various cultures.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality and adherence to HIPAA regulations.

· Ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects running consecutively.

· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written communications with a range of people across the organization and externally.

· Ability to collect, process and analyze data.

· Project management experience.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:

1. Must obtain CPR certification within 30 days of start date

  • Must have a valid Level 1 Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card or apply within seven working days of start date
  • Must comply with all applicable immunization requirements
  • A valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record are required
