Controller Job Description

We are seeking a Controller to join our team and provide financial leadership and support to our growing business. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, payroll (including tax submissions and all related quarterly payroll tax returns) and reporting. This role will report directly to the Owner/Management team and will play a key role in guiding strategic decision-making.

This candidate must have the ability to identify current and envision future opportunities and challenges for the CEO. The ability to identify events and trends early that may affect overhead, gross profit margins, interest rates, labor usage, commodity futures and major expense categories. This is not a maintenance job.

Responsibilities:

1. Daily bookkeeping: data entry including entering invoices, bills, etc. and receivables (must be familiar with QuickBooks online), cutting checks and entering deposits

2. Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow and manage working capital to ensure the company's financial stability and liquidity.

3. Internal Controls: Maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations and policies.

4. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and improve efficiency. Implement best practices to enhance the overall effectiveness of the finance function.

5. Ad-hoc Projects: Assist management with special projects and initiatives as needed, providing financial expertise and insights.

6. Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements as needed, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

7. Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in managing the company's budgeting process, including annual budgets and quarterly forecasts. Provide analysis and insights to management on variances and trends.

8. Payroll: weekly payroll processing including tax submissions and all related quarterly payroll tax returns.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation preferred.

- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, with a focus on financial analysis and reporting.

- Proficiency in accounting software - QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.

- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex financial concepts.

- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

- Experience in a small business or startup environment is a plus.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position, with an estimated commitment of 40-45 hours per week. The specific schedule can be flexible and will be determined based on mutual agreement.
