Controller

The Opportunity

BF Nelson Corporation is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting and financial management of our packaging manufacturing operations. This role is both strategic and operational: you will protect the integrity of our financial information, strengthen manufacturing cost visibility, improve forecasting and controls, and give leaders the insight needed to make sound business decisions.

The ideal candidate understands the pace and complexity of a manufacturing environment and is comfortable moving between the general ledger, plant-floor economics, customer and product profitability, working capital, and executive-level analysis. This is an opportunity to make a visible impact in an established Minnesota packaging company with a long history of serving customers through quality, responsiveness, and practical problem-solving.

What You Will Own

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and deliver accurate, timely financial statements and management reporting.
  • Own general ledger integrity, account reconciliations, revenue recognition, accruals, reserves, fixed assets, and balance-sheet controls.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing cost accounting, including standard costs, labor and overhead rates, inventory valuation, work-in-process, variances, scrap, and absorption.
  • Translate operating results into clear analysis of margins by customer, product line, job, and production activity.
  • Lead the annual budget, periodic forecasts, cash-flow planning, capital planning, and performance reporting.
  • Partner with operations, sales, purchasing, and leadership to improve pricing decisions, productivity, inventory management, and working capital.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit and collections, payroll accounting, and cash-management processes.
  • Maintain an effective internal-control environment and continuously improve financial policies, procedures, and approval workflows.
  • Coordinate year-end review or audit activities, tax filings, banking relationships, insurance reporting, and outside financial advisors; develop useful operating and financial KPIs.
  • Coach and develop accounting team members while establishing clear ownership, deadlines, and service expectations.
  • Support ERP, reporting, and process-improvement initiatives that strengthen data accuracy and reduce manual work.
