Controller / Accounting Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Controller / Accounting Manager to own and scale the financial operations of our residential and commercial mortgage platforms.

This role will serve as the internal finance lead, responsible for accurate financial reporting, commission tracking, cash management, and building the financial infrastructure to support continued growth.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. This is a strong opportunity for someone looking to grow into a broader finance leadership role over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Manage cash flow, budgeting, and financial forecasting
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate with external CPAs, auditors, and tax advisors for tax preparation and filings
  • Own and optimize commission tracking and payout processes across loan officers, ensuring accuracy and scalability
  • Track and reconcile loan-related revenue, fees, and company performance metrics
  • Establish and improve internal controls, reporting, and accounting workflows
  • Evaluate and enhance accounting systems and processes to support company growth
  • Oversee company insurance programs (E&O, general liability, workers’ compensation), including renewals and broker coordination
  • Provide financial insights and reporting to leadership to support strategic decision-making
  • Support financial operations across both residential and commercial lending divisions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of accounting experience (real estate, mortgage, or financial services preferred)
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience with commission-based revenue models or high-volume transaction environments
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and accounting systems
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to operate both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CPA candidate
  • Experience in mortgage brokerage or real estate finance
  • Experience building or improving accounting systems and processes
