The Dental Entrepreneur Organization (DEO) is a fast-growing membership organization that supports entrepreneurial dentists and their leadership teams. With 500+ member practices nationwide, we are expanding our financial services arm to provide bookkeeping and accounting support directly to dental practices.

Position: Controller (Remote)

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Controller to partner with both our internal Finance team as well as our external client-facing team.

In this role, you will provide accounting services to dental practices, ensuring accurate, timely financial records that help our clients run their practices more effectively. You will collaborate closely with our Controllers, CFOs, and Finance Managers to support day-to-day bookkeeping and month-end reporting.

The first 3-months in this role will be covering for the DEO's current Controller. This role will require someone with the proven ability to hit the ground running and add value quickly.

After the leave coverage, this position will assume ongoing Controller responsibilities on our client side, taking on expanded client-facing duties.

This is a fully remote position.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records for multiple dental practices in QuickBooks Online (QBO)
  • Record daily transactions, including patient collections, accounts payable, payroll postings, and credit card expenses
  • Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Post payroll entries, including wages, taxes, 401(k), and health insurance benefits
  • Track and categorize expenses, ensuring accuracy and consistency with dental practice operations
  • Assist with preparation of financial statements and monthend close for client practices
  • Maintain organized documentation for compliance purposes
  • Communicate with clients as needed to obtain missing information or resolve discrepancies

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience (experience with public accounting in dental or healthcare practices strongly preferred).
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online
  • Strong understanding of payroll, benefits posting (401k, health insurance), and expense categorization
  • Ability to manage multiple client files/entities with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with cloudbased tools (Google Workspace, Double (formerly Keeper), Bill.com, Gusto, or similar)
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong written/verbal communication
  • Selfstarter who can meet deadlines while working independently in a remote team environment

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred, Associate’s degree is required.
  • Equivalent handson bookkeeping experience will be strongly considered
  • QuickBooks Online certification preferred

Salary and Benefits

  • Compensation: $80,000 $95,000 per year, commensurate with experience
  • Benefits include medical, vision, and dental coverage; company funded shortterm and longterm disability, and life insurance.
