Controller - full-time permanent position (hybrid with some onsite in Orlando, FL)
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an ambitious, analytical, and execution-oriented Controller to take full ownership of our accounting operations and financial infrastructure. This is a highly visible, hands-on role tailored specifically for a financial professional who thrives on direct execution, has a background with job costing environments, and treats advanced Excel modeling as a native skill.
This is not a passive or strictly delegating role. You will actively drive the month-end close, manage transactional cycles, optimize workflows, and clean up historical data structures where necessary. For a top-tier professional, this position offers an explicit runway for professional development and direct career progression into an executive financial leadership role as the company continues to scale.
The Career Growth Track
This role is engineered for an individual who has outgrown their current position and wants a definitive path forward. You will initially focus on stabilizing, scaling, and perfecting the day-to-day data architecture. As you establish seamless controls and operational efficiencies, your responsibilities will expand into strategic forecasting, capital allocation analysis, and commercial decision support, preparing you to step directly into broader executive accountability.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Execution & Core Accounting
· Independently own and manage the full cycle month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring completely accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting.
· Execute daily accounting operations with absolute detail, directly overseeing or processing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll integration, and general ledger reconciliations.
· Establish, document, and enforce bulletproof internal controls to safeguard corporate assets and streamline audit readiness.
· Manage multi-entity accounting frameworks, ensuring accurate intercompany allocations, billings, and consolidations.
Advanced Job Costing & Project Analytics
· Develop, maintain, and refine robust job costing systems to track, allocate, and analyze direct labor, materials, equipment, and overhead against active projects.
· Partner continuously with operational teams to perform comprehensive variance analyses, evaluating historical project estimates versus actual financial performance.
· Monitor Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules closely, providing leadership with real-time visibility into revenue recognition, margins, and project pipeline health.
· Identify and deliver clear, data-driven recommendations to optimize projects.
Data Architecture & Financial Modeling
· Utilize advanced Excel functionality (e.g., complex nested logical formulas and sophisticated financial modeling) to build repeatable, error-free analytics tools.
· Clean, restructure, and synthesize raw transactional data extracted from the ERP ecosystem to uncover hidden cost drivers and operational trends.
· Help design and implement dynamic financial dashboards (integrating BI tools like Power BI or Excel Data Models) that convert complex accounting narratives into actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders.
What You Bring (Qualifications)
· Education & Licensing: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or combination of education and experience. An active CPA or CMA license (or a well-defined, immediate path toward completion) is a nice plus.
· Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years operating at a Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or Assistant Controller level.
· Industry Domain: Demonstrated mastery of Job Costing or project-based accounting models.
· Technical Toolset: Expert-level mastery of Microsoft Excel and experience with sophisticated accounting platforms such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, NetSuite, or Sage, etc.
· Mindset: An intrinsic drive for excellence, strong process orientation, and an entrepreneurial spirit that views unstructured or evolving environments as an asset rather than a roadblock.
