Controller / Senior Accountant (Multi-Company Operations)

- Retail and service locations
We are seeking a Controller / Senior Accountant to take ownership of financial operations across multiple entities.
Position Summary
This role is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions, ensuring accuracy across multiple companies, and improving financial processes. You will manage day-to-day accounting while also driving reporting, controls, and financial visibility for leadership.
This is a hands-on role — not just oversight.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & Oversight
- Maintain accurate financial records across multiple entities (QuickBooks)
- Oversee full-cycle accounting (A/P, A/R, GL, bank reconciliations)
- Review and ensure accuracy of weekly payments and cash flow
- Perform monthly and year-end close processes
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Oversee vendor payments (including integrated payables systems)
- Manage brokerage vendor setup and compliance (W-9 collection)
- Ensure timely billing and collections
- Reconcile A/R across systems (QuickBooks, Fullbay, Square)
Reconciliations & Controls
- Perform and review bank reconciliations (20+ accounts)
- Manage credit card reconciliations across multiple companies
- Ensure alignment between operational systems and accounting records
- Implement and maintain internal controls
Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare financial statements and internal reports
- Manage monthly sales tax filings and compliance
- Handle annual filings, licensing, and regulatory requirements
- Assist with audits, insurance reporting, and financial reviews
Payroll & Benefits Oversight
- Review benefit-related invoices and allocations (health, insurance, etc.)
- Track and adjust driver-related deductions (FMLA, workers’ comp)
- Ensure proper accounting treatment of payroll-related items
Operational Support
- Support billing processes (PODs, BOLs, load billing)
- Improve workflow efficiency and automation
- Work closely with operations, dispatch, and management
Systems & Tools
- QuickBooks Online
- Fullbay
- Square
- Excel / Google Sheets
- Integrated Payables (Huntington or similar)
Qualifications
- 5+ years of accounting experience (Controller or Senior Accountant level)
- Experience with multi-entity accounting
- Strong understanding of:
- reconciliations
- financial reporting
- internal controls
- High attention to detail and accountability
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in trucking, logistics, or service industry strongly preferred
Preferred (but not required)
- CPA or equivalent experience
- Experience managing accounting staff
- Process improvement / automation experience
