Job Description: Controls Commissioning / Automation Commissioning Engineer
As a Service Engineer, you will be responsible for commissioning PLC programs and equipment for Sorting Systems equipment. You will work on a team with diverse backgrounds and skillsets and be responsible for on-schedule startup and system performance. In addition, you will support existing systems, working directly with the customers as needed.
To be successful as an Controls/Automation Commissioning and Service Engineer, you should have a sound knowledge of Automation and Instrumentation, motor controls, electrical and mechanical principles. You should have strong skills in finding and troubleshooting system faults. Moreover, you should have a service-minded approach to working with PMs, installers, technicians and customers, and excellent planning and prioritization habits to increase efficiency during our short startup windows.
Qualifications
- MUST have advanced skills with Siemens PLC’s, VFD's and HMI's using TIA Portal
- Proficiency with Schnieder PLC’s using Unity Pro and HMI's using Vijeo
- Strong knowledge and experience with ProfiNet, EthernetIP, CANopen and Modbus device networks
- 5-plus years experience as a PLC Programmer in a projects-based Engineering environment.
- Extensive knowledge of all IEC 61131-3 PLC programming languages
- Exceptional logic reasoning abilities.
- Experience configuring/programming networked Siemens Variable Frequency Drives
- A drive to solve problems: excellent ability to understand complex problems, and proactive approach to efficiently troubleshoot and provide reliable solutions
- Clear communication, both written and oral
- Confidence working effectively under pressure
- Sound knowledge of mechanical, electrical (including 120VAC, 24VDC and 480V motor circuits), and software principles
- Working knowledge of NEC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79 and OSHA
- Proficiency in E-Plan Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software is a plus.
- Willingness to travel frequently
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- A strong grasp of the big picture and an eye for detail and accuracy
- Good habits of self-motivation, working independently or in a team environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide onsite technical leadership and start-up support for projects involving advanced, networked controls, including Siemens and Schneider PLCs, VFDs, HMIs and other configurable devices
- Represent Van Dyk, meeting and understanding the client's requirements for electrical and mechanical needs
- Provide services including installation/commissioning, calibrations, upgrades, and customer training
- Author and implement documentation for requirements, validation plans, and testing procedures
- Troubleshoot, verify and validate control systems, safety PLC programming and safety circuits
- Work closely with project management, construction, supply chain, and sales teams
- Assist Sales with technical quotations and customer queries
- Evaluate new and existing systems to provide design and implementation improvements through best practices and emerging control technology
- Assist with specification and integration of control devices such as PLCs, gateways, remote I/O, sensors, relays, VFDs, operator interface devices, etc.
- Red-line Electrical drawings.
- Train customers on system operation and basic troubleshooting
- Prepare clear user documentation, guidelines and manuals/instructions for multiple target audiences.
- Provide patient remote customer support to resolve control systems and electrical issues.
- Provide guidance, support and training to Technicians and other team members
- Maintain clear documentation and safe management of PLC programs and files.
