Controls Engineer - III

Position Summary: Join a team that is building the future of industrial automation. As a Controls Engineer III, you will play a key role in designing and delivering cutting-edge automation and material handling systems that power modern manufacturing and logistics operations. In this role, you will lead and support all phases of automation projects, including control system architecture, control panel design, PLC/HMI/robot programming, system integration, troubleshooting, and on-site startup activities. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams, customers, and field personnel to deliver innovative, reliable, and high-performance solutions in fast-paced industrial environments.

What you will do:

  • Design, develop, and support industrial control systems for automated manufacturing and material handling equipment (MHE).
  • Program, configure, test, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, robotics, servo systems, and related automation equipment.
  • Support electrical and electro-mechanical integration of motors, motor controllers, actuators, sensors, and power distribution systems.
  • Develop and troubleshoot packaging machinery and line control systems.
  • Provide on-site startup, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting support for automation systems and equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, operations, and customer teams to ensure successful project execution and system performance.
  • Maintain compliance with company quality standards, safety procedures, and applicable industry regulations.
  • Support customer service requests and technical troubleshooting activities as needed.
  • Assist with system validation, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Who you are:

  • You bring strong knowledge of industrial automation systems, controls engineering principles, and electrical systems.
  • You are a hands-on problem solver with the ability to troubleshoot effectively in fast-paced industrial environments.
  • You communicate clearly and professionally with customers, contractors, and cross-functional internal teams.
  • You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • You thrive in collaborative project environments and are motivated by delivering reliable, high-quality automation solutions. You have experience working with Allen-Bradley products, including Studio 5000, PowerFlex 525 drives, AENTR modules, and industrial controls networking.
  • You have experience with Siemens STEP 7 and TIA Portal automation platforms.
  • Experience with AS/RS systems, AMRs, and crane automation is highly valued.
  • Experience managing contractors or external vendors is a plus

What you will bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related technical field preferred. Equivalent technical education and experience will also be considered.
  • A minimum of 5–10 years of controls engineering experience in industrial automation, manufacturing, packaging, or material handling environments.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC and robotic automation systems, preferably including: KUKA, ABB, FANUC, OMRON
  • Experience with: Allen-Bradley PLC platforms including ControlLogix, PLC-5, and SLC 500, PanelView Plus HMIs,ndustrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, AS-i, PROFIBUS, and PROFINET, Servo drive systems, VFDs, and motion control technologies
  • Experience with Siemens S7 PLCs, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Visual Studio is preferred.

Physical requirements:

  • You are able to walk and stand for extended periods within manufacturing and customer facilities.
  • You are able to sit for prolonged periods while working on a computer and completing technical documentation.
  • You are able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
  • You are able and willing to travel to customer sites as needed for startup and commissioning activities.

Job location: This position is remote. You must be available for up to 30% - 50% project travel to be considered for the role.

Salary: $120,000-$140,000/year
