The Converting Trainer plays a critical role in promoting a culture of safety, operational excellence, and continuous learning. This role is responsible for delivering hands-on and classroom training, developing team capabilities, and supporting standard work across the department. Approximately 80% of the Trainer’s time will be spent on the production floor working directly with team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Leadership:
- Promote a zero-incident culture by modeling and reinforcing safe work practices.
- Lead and support safety initiatives, including behavioral safety programs.
- Provide training on safety protocols, Overhead Crane, Powered Pallet Jack, LOTO, APM, and down-day procedures.
- Complete daily LOTO/APM audits and coach employees on safety compliance.
- Participate in Safety Committee meetings.
Training & Development:
- Deliver structured on-the-job and classroom training for new hires and existing team members.
- Support team development in safety, quality, efficiency, and technical skills.
- Conduct daily Health Check walks, using these as training opportunities.
- Write, review, and train employees on Standard Work procedures.
- Track training progress using the qualification matrix.
- Support Yield, 5S, CL, and CIL initiatives as needed by the department.
- Partner with Supervisors and Leads to build individual specific training plans.
- Identify skill gaps and create tailored development plans.
System & Process Training:
- Train team members on operational systems and tools.
- Provide guidance on executing CILs, CLs, changeovers, yield, and other key daily production processes.
- During outages or equipment downtime, train team members on alternative tasks, machine cleaning procedures, and troubleshooting skills.
- Actively engage in diagnosing equipment issues and use the opportunity to upskill operators.
Leadership & Engagement:
- Act as a training ambassador and provide floor-level support to drive employee engagement.
- Coach team members on problem-solving techniques.
- Consistently gather feedback from operators, leads, supervisors, and work teams to identify training needs and enhance training strategies.
- Attend daily meetings with department supervisors to prioritize and align training efforts.
- Participate in GSTD and BDA sessions as required.
- Complete Train-the-Trainer certification.
Qualifications & Competencies
Required:
- Internal candidates must have a Level 4 qualification in Converting.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively train and coach team members.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and ability to learn company-specific systems.
Preferred:
- Self-motivated and energetic with a strong sense of initiative.
- Deep understanding of converting processes, equipment, and high-speed manufacturing.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to high noise levels, varying temperatures, and industrial odors.
- Frequent walking and standing on concrete surfaces.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Climbing stairs, ladders, and working around hazardous chemicals may be required.
