Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and proactive Safety Coordinator to join our team and champion a culture of safety excellence across our manufacturing operations. In this vital role, you will coordinate safety initiatives, ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, and foster a safe working environment for all employees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide safety support and advice to the Plant Manager, Superintendent and staff.
- Identify opportunities, develop improvements, and lead projects through to successful outcomes.
- Take an active role in the plant employee relations by developing relationships with all employees.
- Provide safety training to individuals and large groups on a monthly basis.
- Host Lead and Supervisor meetings
- Spend a significant portion of the day out on the production floor to identify and mitigate safety risks.
- Ensure routine safety checks and inspections are done on a timely basis and that they are properly documented.
- Assist with Environmental and DNR reporting
- Conduct safety orientation and training classes for new employees
- Develop and execute health and safety plans according to legal guidelines.
- Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
- Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
- Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
- Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.
- Investigate accidents to discover causes and handle workers compensation claims
- Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
- Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics
- Have a deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines
- Produce reports and develop relevant policies
- Develop JSA’s for all job functions
- Develop a crane training program. Includes classroom and hands on training.
- Act as a company representative when dealing with government agencies on safety and health matters
Skills, Abilities, and Experience

- 5 years manufacturing experience with overhead crane and rigging experience preferred but not required.
- Experience with employee relations and partnering with leaders, teams, and employees to support a healthy, productive and safe workplace.
- A passion for turning problems into opportunities. The ability to identify, analyze, and collaborate with others to implement improvement initiatives.
- The ability to connect with people in a way that develops relationships.
- The skill to coach and guide others in a way that they can receive the feedback.
- A level of comfort for working in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
- Ability to analyze complex situations and make recommendations for action.
- Ability to take on safety related projects from inception to completion. This will involves the ability to use welders, saws, torches, overhead cranes and other misc. manufacturing equipment.
- Be self-motivated and the ability motivate others to reach safety goals.
- Ability to visit other Merrill Steel locations
