Position Summary

Assists the Director of Library Services in delivering comprehensive library services to students, faculty, staff, and other approved patrons. Provides Coordination of activities at the Marietta Johnson Museum - Fairhope.

Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System salary schedule C3-3.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include:

  • Conducts and supervises library functions in circulation, collection development, reference, bibliographic instruction, media services, and duplication services.
  • Provides oversight and coordination of campus library services and facilities.
  • Encourages understanding and usage of the library including print and online resources among students, faculty, and staff.
  • Instructs students, faculty, staff, and other users in bibliographic instruction/information literacy.
  • Prepares and submits library reports and documents.
  • Assists the Director of Library Services with reviewing and developing goals, objectives, policies and procedures, and the library budget for the global Library Services division, including purchasing of library related items.
  • Coordinates and implements online and face-to-face instruction in support of Library Services, the professional development of the campus community, and faculty information literacy efforts.
  • Acquaints the faculty and staff with library holdings, usage and collection management.
  • Schedules media and learning resources at the appropriate learning resource centers.
  • Maintains media equipment for the library and learning resources centers at the appropriate learning resource centers.
  • Informs faculty of media materials available to help support classes and working with faculty in the production of media materials.
  • Assists faculty in the selection of books, media, and related equipment so that an adequate collection of books, videotapes, audiotapes, and other non-print materials are available.
  • Assists the Director of Library Services with training full-time and part-time library staff.
  • Provides oversight and coordination of campus library services and facilities, including the Marietta Johnson Museum.
  • Conducts tours of the Marietta Johnson Museum and promotes its use and reputation in the local and statewide community.
  • Trains and supervises student workers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with a major or minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in library services/information studies/library media or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Five years of related experience.
  • Experience in administering and working with personal computers, computer networks, and computer-aided instruction.
  • Experience interacting with the public with excellent quality customer service experience.
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening hours.
  • Ability to interact with students, faculty, staff, and the general public in a friendly and congenial manner.
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks under pressure and meet deadlines using critical thinking skills in pressure situations.
  • A current and valid driver’s license to travel between campuses, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited program.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of educational programs.
  • Three years of administrative or supervisory experience.
  • Experience in higher education, preferably in a community college setting.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college library.
  • Respect for individuals of different genders, religions, ethnic backgrounds, abilities, and opinions.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. All regular full-time and part-time employees (non-temporary and non- student) who work at least 20 hours per week are required to participate in The Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama.
Tier I - Pays 7.50% monthly. State matches 14.57% (effective 10/01/25)
Tier II – Pays 6.20% monthly. State matches 13.61% (effective 10/01/25)
Law Enforcement Officers:

Health Insurance
PEEHIP, established in 1983, provides health insurance benefits for active and retired education employees and is governed by the PEEHIP Board of Control.
