Position Summary

The Director of Strategic Communications & Executive Operations serves as the Communications Lead for THE DISTRICT of Bernalillo Public Schools and provides executive-level logistical, operational, and strategic planning support to the Superintendent and School Board.

This position is responsible for overseeing district-wide communications, managing scheduling and logistics for executive leadership, and leading the strategic planning process while documenting and monitoring district progress toward established goals.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong organizational leadership, a background in logistics and strategic planning, the ability to manage complex schedules and disruptions, and experience leading teams while maintaining high levels of customer service and stakeholder engagement .

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

District Communications Leadership

  • Serve as the official Communications Lead for the DISTRICT.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive internal and external communication strategies.
  • Oversee messaging, publications, media engagement, and public relations initiatives.
  • Ensure alignment of communications with district goals and strategic priorities.
  • Maintain consistent, transparent, and timely communication with staff, families, and community stakeholders.

Executive Logistics & Scheduling

  • Serve as Logistics and Scheduling Lead for the Superintendent and School Board.
  • Manage complex executive calendars, meetings, public events, and board sessions.
  • Coordinate travel, event planning, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Anticipate and proactively manage scheduling conflicts and operational disruptions with flexibility and sound judgment.
  • Develop efficient systems for executive workflow and documentation.

Strategic Planning Oversight

  • Lead the district’s strategic planning process.
  • Facilitate goal setting, performance monitoring, and progress documentation.
  • Track district-wide initiatives and prepare reports for the Superintendent and Board.
  • Align departmental goals with district priorities and measurable outcomes.
  • Provide data-informed insights to support decision-making and continuous improvement.

Leadership & Team Oversight

  • Supervise communications and/or administrative staff as assigned.
  • Provide coaching, professional development, and performance management.
  • Promote a culture of customer service, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in support of district initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizational leadership and team management .
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex schedules and high-volume operations .

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Public Administration, Logistics Management or related field
  • Understanding of supply chain operations and strategic planning frameworks .
  • Experience managing staff and leading teams of various sizes .
  • Experience in customer service leadership and stakeholder engagement .
  • Experience coordinating events, executive scheduling, and operational planning .
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt quickly in dynamic, high-demand environments .
