Copy Of Medical Laboratory Scientist

The Medical Laboratory Scientist at BCMC performs, interprets and correlates clinical laboratory tests by following protocols to assist in physician diagnosis and treatment. The MLS must be certified or eligible to be certified in clinical laboratory science by a recognized certifying agency. This is a SAFETY SENSITIVE position. As a PRN employee at BCMC, you must work 1 full shift every 60 days.

Essential Job Functions:

• Perform laboratory testing in an accurate and timely manner by following established protocols in order to assist in appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
• Interpret and correlate test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical conditions in order to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken.
• Complies with OSHA and regulatory requirements by following established procedures in order to maintain a safe laboratory environment and to meet accreditation standards.
• May provide technical education and guidance to students and staff by overseeing work performance in support of educational programs resulting in a continuous learning environment.
• Works effectively as a team member within the department and with other units to provide quality service through communication, cooperation and collaboration.
• Maintains flexibility required to adapt to laboratory needs as related to testing and scheduling.
• Informs appropriate personnel of department supply needs, ensuring uninterrupted testing.

Job Qualifications:

Education: 1) High School graduate or equivalent

2)Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (or an appropriate science program from an accredited college or university or equivalent).

Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to stand for long periods of time, but also able to move in a fast-paced environment. Occasional bending and lifting up to 20 lbs.

PRN employees must be able to work 1 full time shift every 60 days.
