Job Summary
The Copywriter plays a pivotal role in executing Segerstrom Center for the Arts' strategic communications and marketing initiatives, enhancing messaging, and strengthening the Center's brand presence. This position acts as the key copywriter for sales material and entails crafting dynamic emails, institutional marketing documents, blog posts, and SEO-optimized website copy. The Copywriter also collaborates across departments, assists with the email marketing calendar, reviews campaign performance metrics, and ensures all content aligns with the Center’s brand voice and high-level messaging strategies.


Job Duties

  • Support the implementation of an integrated communications and marketing plan that promotes Segerstrom Center for the Arts, broadens awareness, and elevates visibility across key audiences.
  • Strengthen and steward the Center’s unique brand voice to build equity, relevance, and organizational reputation. Write clear, compelling copy for a high volume of marketing and sales messages—including promotional emails, newsletters, announcements, and SMS campaigns.
  • Support management of the email marketing calendar with eCommerce Marketing Manager.
  • Review email performance reports and share insights to support content optimization.
  • Conduct ongoing subject line testing and monitor industry trends to refine and optimize email performance.
  • Coordinate content strategy for the website’s blog space; update and reformat existing articles using SEO best practices.
  • Write blog posts, interview artists from upcoming shows, and produce compelling long and short-form content that attracts organic traffic, boosts SEO, and reinforces our brand attributes.
  • Contribute to institutional writing projects including the annual impact report
  • Act as an expert on the brand voice and ensure all written materials align with established style guidelines and messaging frameworks.
  • Collaborate with Center President and Senior Leaders to develop internal and external marketing communications for key
    stakeholders.
  • Write and update website content—including seasonal event pages, evergreen institutional copy, and program descriptions—and review page traffic to support copy updates on low-performing pages.
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop and refine evergreen website content.
  • Collect and publish audience advisories for all upcoming performances to promote the Center’s accessibility services.
  • Proofread a high volume of marketing materials daily to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to Center-specific style and formatting standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related discipline or equivalent from a four-year college or technical
    school
  • Minimum 2 years of copywriting experience
  • A passion for and knowledge of the performing arts is preferred
  • Understanding of email marketing best practices is beneficial

  • Proven excellence as a copywriter, preferably in the nonprofit or performing arts industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of brand voice, tone, and storytelling principles.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail and an understanding of SEO and digital
    marketing principles.
  • Ability to comfortably vary voice, style and other characteristics based on the target audience at hand.
  • Self-motivated and resilient, adept at both independent work and collaborative teamwork.
  • Proven capacity to handle multiple projects concurrently and efficiently.
  • Thrives in fast-paced, dynamic environments with multiple communication channels.
  • Creative mindset with enthusiasm for developing innovative ideas, initiatives, and campaigns.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Routine walking/standing.
  • Occasionally lift/carry objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • This job’s specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Conditions

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $21.96-$27.45/hour; Full-Time, Non-Exempt
  • 403B with match after probationary period.
