Eastern Shore Forest Products and sister company, Animal Comfort Group, an award winning and fast-growing manufacturing & packaging company, is hiring for a Corporate Controller. Animal Comfort group is a nationwide manufacturer and distributor of animal bedding produced from sustainably harvested trees. Mainly wood shavings and wood pellets.
Position Summary
The Corporate Controller is responsible for leading the company’s accounting and financial reporting function across multiple manufacturing locations. This role will drive strong technical accounting, establish scalable processes and controls, lead audits, and optimize financial systems. The ideal candidate combines hands-on technical expertise with the ability to build, develop, and mentor a high-performing accounting team in a growing, operationally complex environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for all locations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency.
- Prepare and review consolidated financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
- Lead technical accounting matters including inventory valuation, cost accounting, revenue recognition, fixed assets, leases, and reserves.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and documentation to support audit readiness and internal consistency.
- Ensure compliance with lender reporting, debt covenants, and private-equity reporting requirements.
Audit & Compliance
- Serve as primary point of contact for external auditors, coordinating annual financial statement audits and any interim reviews.
- Lead audit planning, PBC coordination, issue resolution, and implementation of audit recommendations.
- Maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting and support ongoing SOX-lite or internal control frameworks as applicable.
- Oversee compliance with federal, state, and local tax filings in coordination with external advisors.
Manufacturing & Cost Accounting
- Oversee standard costing, inventory controls, and plant-level accounting across multiple manufacturing facilities.
- Partner with operations to ensure accurate tracking of production costs, yields, scrap, freight, and inventory movements.
- Support margin analysis, variance analysis, and operational KPIs related to manufacturing efficiency.
- Ensure consistency of accounting practices across all locations while supporting local operational needs.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Lead ERP and financial systems optimization, enhancements, and future implementations as the company scales.
- Design and implement efficient, repeatable accounting processes that improve close speed, data accuracy, and visibility.
- Partner with IT, operations, and finance leadership to improve data integrity, reporting automation, and controls.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and reduce manual processes.
Leadership & Team Development
- Build, manage, and mentor a strong corporate and plant-level accounting team.
- Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations across the accounting function.
- Develop team members through coaching, training, and succession planning.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration with operations and finance leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA strongly preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including manufacturing and multi-location operations.
- Strong US GAAP knowledge with hands-on technical accounting experience.
- Proven experience leading external audits and working with public accounting firms.
- Demonstrated success implementing or optimizing ERP and financial systems.
- Experience in private-equity backed or high-growth environments preferred.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and scale teams.
- Detail-oriented, process-driven, and comfortable operating in a hands-on role.

Pay: $160,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
