This Corporate Counsel role will be responsible for serving in a multi-faceted generalist role in the Legal Department, supporting litigation, labor and employment, commercial transactions, and compliance work from the team's senior lawyers and the company's Chief Legal Officer. This role offers a tremendous opportunity to grow and develop an in-house practice. This position reports to the company's Senior Associate General Counsel, Assistant Corporate Secretary, responsible for the Company's compliance, labor and employment, litigation, and regulatory matters. The ideal candidate will have expertise in litigation, with additional experience in labor and employment and contract matters a plus.
Litigation and Dispute Management:
- Manage and resolve a wide range of lawsuits and pre-litigation disputes to achieve good business and legal results
- Provide guidance and support to business team on litigation-related matters, including risk assessments, proactive solutions, and mitigation strategies
- Help manage Scoular's responses to third-party requests for information
- Supervise outside counsel on more complex litigation matters
Labor and Employment:
- Provide advice and counsel on labor and employment related matters, including but not limited to, employee relations, performance management, wage and hour law, labor relations, employee benefits, and immigration
- Develop, draft, update, and implement employment and other workforce-related policies
- Monitor the legal landscape of state and international employment laws and regulations
- Provide assistance on compliance related matters
Commercial Transactions:
- Basic commercial contract review, analysis, negotiating, and drafting
- Provide assistance to the legal team on entry level contract and transactional matters
- Provide assistance on M&A matters, including legal due diligence
Communication and Teamwork:
- Collaboratively across a broad range of operations and service partners, developing and maintaining strong working relationships between human resources, operations, and other functions to facilitate a team-based approach.
- Proactively communicate and manage expectations with multiple constituencies.
Requirements:
- J.D. and licensure in at least one state
- At least five (5) years prior experience in the following areas: litigation and basic contract matters
- Deeper experience in labor and employment and commercial transactions a tremendous plus
- High learning agility, ability to navigate change, and manage a diverse portfolio of work.
