The Fleet Manager will oversee the daily operations of the company’s fleet of trucks and specialized trenchless construction equipment. This role ensures fleet readiness, safety compliance, reliability, and cost control in support of field operations.
The Fleet Manager will play a critical role in maintaining uptime, improving efficiency, and supporting operational excellence across all projects.
This position requires up to 50% travel to field locations and project sites.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Operations

Manage daily availability of trucks and trenchless equipment (CCTV vans, jetters, vac trucks, HDD rigs, trailers).

Coordinate fleet assignments to meet project schedules and field needs.

Monitor utilization and recommend redeployment or replacement.
Maintenance & Reliability

Implement and manage preventive maintenance schedules.
-
Coordinate in-house and third-party repairs.
-
Track service records and ensure compliance with inspection standards.
-
Minimize downtime through proactive maintenance planning.
Safety & Compliance
-
Ensure DOT and FMCSA compliance for all applicable vehicles.

Manage DVIRs, inspections, and repair documentation.
-
Assist with accident investigations and corrective actions.

Enforce vehicle safety standards and driver accountability.
Telematics & Reporting (Samsara or Similar)

Monitor GPS, idle time, and equipment location.

Track driver behavior and safety events.
-
Use data to improve uptime, fuel efficiency, and routing.

Ensure drivers properly use telematics tools.
Inventory & Asset Control

Track fleet inventory, upfits, and specialty trenchless tools.

Manage licensing, registration, and insurance records.

Oversee disposal or redeployment of assets.
Cost Control

Track maintenance and fuel expenses.

Assist in budgeting and cost-per-mile/hour reporting.

Identify opportunities for savings and efficiency.
Collaboration

Work with operations to support job schedules.

Coordinate with HSE on driver training.

Communicate fleet status and issues to VP of fleet.
Qualifications
-
5-7+ years of fleet management experience (construction preferred).

Experience managing medium/heavy-duty trucks and specialty equipment.
-
Working knowledge of DOT regulations and vehicle inspections.

Strong mechanical aptitude.
-
Experience with telematics or fleet software (Samsara preferred).

Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred
Preferred Qualifications

Trenchless construction or underground utilities experience.

ASE certification or fleet management certification (CAFM).

Experience managing both vehicles and non-powered equipment.

Experience working with vendors and repair shops.
