The Corporate Lab Manager oversees and coordinates activities across chemistry and feed laboratories to ensure accurate, timely testing that meets ISO requirements. The role is responsible for managing workflow, quality, inventories, projects, and staff collaboration while handling both general and lab-specific administrative duties. The position also supports leadership in developing operational objectives, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency and quality.
Essential Functions:
- Apprises Director of FSQA of all activities, pertinent changes in internal/external market, threats, and opportunities in a timely and anticipatory manner and presents action plans for immediate implementation/approval.
- Maintains awareness of customer (plant) needs and implements operations of department to ensure compliance with standards and requirements as it relates to laboratory services.
- Plans, implements and manages lab activities to ensure efficient operations, quality results, and professional customer service.
- Establishes communication mechanisms to ensure that all laboratory employees and customers have access to laboratory related information. Assists in maintenance of Laboratory Databases.
- Plans work schedules, assigns work and monitors workflow to always provide adequate Lab services through individual or cooperative activities.
- Compiles, prepares and maintains records, reports and files for ISO compliance purposes.
- Supervises, develops and motivates direct reports to ensure that a capable, productive staff exists within Laboratory services.
- Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements to maintain knowledge of best practices, current trends and developments in Laboratory testing.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in microbiology
- 5+ years of experience as a lab tech or similar experience
- 1+ year of supervisory or lead technologist experience
- Thorough knowledge of lab operations; technical knowledge of lab equipment, procedures and safety within assigned lab.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, ability to use automated data collection systems.
- Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to develop, present, implement and maintain activities within assigned program or organizational unit(s).
- Demonstrated organizational and communication skills to work collaboratively and effectively with others.
- Basic knowledge of good laboratory practices for basic chemical analysis.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to utilize lab equipment and other physical demands required in a busy lab environment
- Exposure to pathogens and live cultures.
- Climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
