Position Summary
The Corporate Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading the procurement function supporting all indirect categories across Pretium Packaging’s 24 manufacturing locations. This role manages sourcing strategy, supplier relationships, operational purchasing requirements, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure cost-effective, sustainable, and high-quality procurement. The Corporate Purchasing Manager oversees purchasing processes, drives supplier performance, partners cross-functionally with plant leadership, and ensures adherence to procurement policies. Success in this role requires strong negotiation capability, organizational excellence, and leadership, ideally within the packaging or broader manufacturing industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day indirect purchasing activities, including vendor selection, evaluation, negotiation, and contract management.
    • Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to ensure cost-effective, high-quality goods and services.
    • Oversee purchasing procedures including RFPs/RFQs, purchase orders, requisitions, and invoice resolution.
    • Ensure continuity of supply and optimize inventory levels to support uninterrupted production through proactive planning and predictive insights.
    • Resolve supplier issues including quality concerns, delivery delays, and invoice discrepancies.
    • Monitor market trends and develop sourcing strategies that drive cost savings, operational efficiency, and risk mitigation.
    • Prepare regular reports and analyses on purchasing activity, vendor performance, pricing, and cost reduction initiatives.
    • Support new product introductions by ensuring supplier readiness and timely availability of required materials.
    • Partner closely with plant leadership, Planning, Engineering, and Quality to align procurement with operational needs.
    • Standardize procurement practices and ensure compliance with company policies.
    • Provide leadership and direction to purchasing team members and influence supplier & internal stakeholder engagement through innovative ideas and best practices.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Procurement, Business Administration, or a related technical field required.
    • MBA preferred.

Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in a Commodity Manager, Purchasing Manager, or similar procurement leadership role within packaging or manufacturing.
    • Experience with rigid plastics or comparable manufacturing environments strongly preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, collaborate cross-functionally, and influence decision-making.
    • Experience managing budgets and contributing to strategic procurement planning.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong negotiation, vendor management, and contract administration capabilities.
    • Deep knowledge of procurement concepts, sourcing methodologies, and best practices.
    • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
    • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong people leadership capabilities, including coaching and development of team members.
