Correctional Officer

Please apply in person Now hiring at the Jefferson County Jail located in Brookville, PA. We are currently accepting applications for full time Correction Officers. The starting wage will be $22.05 after the first three weeks of training. The overall objective of the position is to supervise, care for and the control of inmates. Responsibilities include the security of the jail, protecting the public, staff and incarcerated individuals, and serving as a liaison between inmates and supervisory staff. High School diploma or equivalent is required. Must be able to pass criminal background and drug tests. Must be a United States citizen and be willing to work different shifts and on an on-call basis. The successful candidate must be willing to work daily with potentially aggressive inmates, conduct inmate searches, including body searches, occasionally could be involved in physical confrontations to enforce jail rules, and conduct head counts at specified times. Applications will be accepted at the County Commissioners Office, Jefferson Place, 155 Main Street, 2nd Floor, Brookville, PA, or at the Jefferson County Jail located at 578 Service center Rd. Brookville, PA Monday through Friday 8:30 through 4:30 Jail. Applicant must be at least 18 years of age, high school (or equivalent) graduate, and must possess a clean criminal background

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor inmate activities to ensure compliance with facility rules and regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the facility, including cells, common areas, and perimeters.
  • Respond to emergencies and incidents, utilizing conflict management skills to de-escalate situations.
  • Prepare detailed reports on inmate behavior, incidents, and daily activities.
  • Operate CCTV systems to monitor inmate movements and maintain security.
  • Enforce disciplinary actions as necessary while maintaining professionalism.
  • Provide first aid and CPR when required, ensuring the health and safety of inmates and staff.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies as needed for investigations or emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in law enforcement or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR is highly desirable.
  • Strong conflict management skills with the ability to handle stressful situations calmly.
  • Proficient in report writing with attention to detail for documentation purposes.
  • Familiarity with CCTV operations and monitoring techniques is an advantage.
  • A military background or certificate may enhance candidacy but is not mandatory.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for effective interaction with inmates and staff.
