Correctional Officer - I

York County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for a Full-Time Corrections Officer. The York County Sheriff's Department is currently staffed by 24 full-time employees including patrol, clerks, and corrections. The York County Sheriff's Office prides itself in providing its correctional staff with state of the art equipment and an employee-friendly work environment. Shifts can vary but most are 12-hour shifts (7:00am - 7:00pm, or 7:00pm - 7:00am) with every other weekend off. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Previous experience is preferred, but not required. We will provide the right applicant with all necessary training for the role. The application process will involve submittal of the employment application, background investigation, and an interview.

Compensation: The hourly rate is $25.00 - $29.00/hour depending on certification(s), experience, and successfully compelted the probationary period.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Has complete knowledge of the policies and procedures governing the York County Jail facility.
  • Has complete knowledge of the procedures and regulations contained in the York County employee manual.
  • Maintain proper communications with all personnel and in doing so insures that a positive working relationship is maintained at all times.
  • Responsible for the daily care of the county jail and all inmates.
  • Reports directly to the Assistant Corrections Jail Administrator and the Corrections Jail Administrator.
  • Responsible for recording all inmate files, paperwork, and documents.
  • Responsible for searching all inmates entering the jail facility.
  • Responsible for cleaning cells, hallways, restrooms, office, booking room, kitchen, laundry room, garage, and all storage rooms.
  • Follow all directives, regulations, and instructions.
  • Responsible for inmate booking procedures, photographing, finger printing, searching, along with cash and property inventory.
  • Follow all regulations and procedures set forth by Jail standards.
  • Maintain a secure and clean working environment for the inmates and correctional staff.
  • Responsible for dispensing and documenting inmate medication.
  • Complete mandated security cell checks and contraband cell searches.

Requirements:.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Must be 19 years or older.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Must complete Basic Jail School at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center in Grand Island, Nebraska within one (1) year of employment. This is paid for by the York County Sheriff's Department.
