Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Correctional Registered Nurse to join our team through a direct employment offer. Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical histories to determine immediate and ongoing healthcare needs.
- Administer medications and injections accurately, including IV infusions and medication management tailored to individual treatment plans.
- Perform wound care procedures such as suturing, ostomy care, and dressing changes following aseptic techniques to prevent infection.
- Manage acute pain episodes, triage urgent cases, and coordinate with healthcare teams for timely interventions.
- Document all patient interactions meticulously using electronic health record (EHR) systems like Cerner or Athenahealth, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on discharge planning, case management, and long-term care strategies for inmates with complex health needs.
- Provide health education focused on disease prevention, chronic condition management—including diabetes and infectious diseases—and promote overall wellness within the correctional setting.
Requirements
- Valid registered nurse (RN) license in the state of practice with current CPR/BLS certification.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic evaluation techniques including laboratory testing and ICD coding (ICD-9/10).
- Skilled in performing clinical procedures such as phlebotomy, venipuncture, catheterization, tube feeding, and sterile processing.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining excellent communication skills within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or behavioral health challenges is advantageous; familiarity with trauma medicine or level I trauma center protocols is a plus.
