Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
The incumbent will have the ability to be self-directed, demonstrating professional alignment with evidence-based practices including cognitive-behavioral classes and interventions. They should have strong facilitation skills including the ability to be purposeful, engaging, and respectful with residents, and flow with group dynamics during programming sessions, and should have a thorough understanding of cognitive-behavioral programming and principles. The incumbent will be provided curricula and priorities in the facility, based on the risk/need of residents and will have the latitude to deliver programming within established parameters, so long as the services are consistent with evidence-based practices, and fit the risk/need level/issues of the individual case. The incumbent will also be expected to follow guidelines, policies and procedures of the department and facility.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
This position works as part of the Programs Division at the Kansas Juvenile Corrections Complex (KJCC) and is responsible for establishing and delivering programming and case management support in the areas of cognitive-behavioral interventions for moderate and high-risk juvenile residents. Services are to be delivered in the appropriate dosage, depending on the residents risk/need levels, according to evidence-based practices, and in close collaboration and communication with internal and external partners. The core classes to be taught are Thinking for a Change, Aggression Replacement Training, Advanced Practice; Social Skill Streaming, FPI, and other programming as determined by the agency. Other classes will be this position’s responsibility, including classes of varying lengths/doses, addressing any area of risk/need, as identified by the facility, and directed by the supervisor. May also be responsible for training agency staff in one or more of these program curricula.
Performs additional tasks related to program delivery, including entering resident case notes, providing ongoing feedback to juvenile residents and their assigned facility case managers regarding their progress and participation in group, communicating with all members of the unit team – including unit operations staff – regarding the current focus of programming in progress to allow those staff the ability to support the youth in their newly-learned skills as they observe and interact with them on the living unit and throughout the facility. Ensure programming dispositions are accurately entered into appropriate spreadsheets/databases; ensuring unit team, probation officers, mentors, and other partners have feedback about class progress as appropriate. Maintain tracking of Program Hours to report out on and include in the youths Program Planning Conference Reports.
Will work with supervisor to schedule, monitor, and facilitate the administrative aspects of programming, including working with unit team for resident referrals; reviewing lists of offenders to identify potential participants; making placement decisions in classes, ensuring full use of all available slots; addressing readiness and responsivity; monitoring for quality/fidelity (and assisting colleagues at KJCC and in other facilities and offices in monitoring their classes for quality/fidelity, as directed by the supervisor); tracking how many residents start and finish; monitoring progress to reduce failures;
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Four years’ direct experience in criminal justice, social science or behavioral sciences.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to those applicants with previous experience in corrections.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
Must take and pass a drug screening test approved by the Division of Personnel Services.
Must pass a physical exam, background and submit a State of Kansas Tax Clearance.
